from brooks' most recent article [url] http://nypost.com/2017/06...into-rangers-blockbuster/ around step/mcd blcokbuster potential, found this stat to be kind of crazy..

I believe the most damage to the 2017-18 Blueshirts would be done by losing Grabner, whose disruptive speed is a constant weapon, even if his finishing touch tends to come and go (but stayed around long enough for him to score 27 goals while getting a grand total of 6:03 of power play time, or 1:02 less than Nicklas Jensen).

Not being an American, I only know 2 of those guys. LBJ and Reagan. Who's the other 2?

also from Brooks:

Maybe McPhee takes Raanta and flips him to, say, the Flyers or Coyotes for a third-rounder. (Could the Rangers have made a similar deal last week? Probably, but then they’d have lost a second player to Vegas.)

But what would we be getting back in a return? If we could move up in the draft or add a good prospect I don't think it's a bad move, but we have no idea what the offers were. If Lindberg gets taken I think the chances of Stepan getting selected go down significantly. If we could have traded Raanta to Winn let's say for the 13th overall and a 2nd with our 1st going with Raanta, I think that's a move you make and sign a goalie to expose. Someone said last blog that's an over payment for Raanta but Jan pointed out we got a 2nd and 3rd for Talbot and we all feel EDM won that deal so it might be a fair deal. Who knows though.

The two teams also swapped their 7th Round 2015 picks as well.
The Oilers stole Talbot in comparison to other teams' offers, due to Sather (with Gorton named the Rangers new GM just 4 days later), over estimating his trade value at that time, while there were a glut of top back up goalies available that off season.
First, Buffalo refused his demands, & went for Robin Lehner. Calgary next dropped out, and Sather turned down Florida's offer of Jimmy Hayes + picks to make him their back up to Luongo. That left Sather down to the 2 other heavy interested teams in San Jose or Edmonton. However, the Kings traded back up, Martin Jones to Boston, who then immediately flipped him to San Jose where he became their #1 starter. That was after Sather first turned down San Jose's unbelievable offer of their 1st Round, #11 overall pick, as per the Sharks own website on June 26, 2015, in an article titled, "Sharks INEXPLICABLY Offering First Rounder For Cam Talbot". Many, including that day TSN's, Frank Servalli, thought that was a crazy price given the number of top back ups available besides Talbot.
That's when Sather, still in demand for a top young Oilers forward, even if it were necessary through the means of a larger deal involving Klein, had to settle for what he was best offered, with Edmonton knowing they were the only real interested party remaining, for Sather still in charge in the end, to make the final say.

"Wild one that is pure conjecture: McDonagh and Stepan for MacKinnon and Tyson Barrie."

Would you do it? I say no.... Mac's contract is just way too good.

I mentioned this morning that one of the scariest parts of trading Stepan is how it will affect McDonagh

George McPhee expects three or four of his selections in the expansion draft to be at T-Mobile Arena for Wednesday night's announcement.

Key word is conjecture. To me that means wild speculation with little based in actual fact.

Mackinnon is a beast. McDonagh is going to be looking for a big raise soon, and Skjei looks like he has all the tools to be a #1and is a rfa I think after next year(?). Skip the bridge, sign Skjei long term. Can't pay two left side number 1's. I would do it. Hate to see McDonagh go but Mackinnon.

Some shade dropped on AV from Brooks in the column.

McDonagh has this year and next year left on his current deal. Barrie has one extra year at $5.5 million.
