Kevin Miller had a good second half of the season and playoffs. Again protecting Spooner and Nash makes no sense to me.

i have to think that they want to get something for spooner

They would have exposed Pasta if they went 4-4

He is still protected, Nash and Spooner are both forwards and both very replaceable. C. Miller has a better upside and trade value than either of them.

Who would you have protected over Nash and spooner? If they selected one more D man, they would have only been able to protect 4 forwards (Bergy, Krej, Backes Marchy) all NMC and have to be protected.

They probably felt they didnt need to protect 4 D.

Not a huge fan of the Backes contract but I'm not about to expose him for C Miller either. So if that's the rules sure.

I would (sound insane as well) protect Schaller and Nash over Spooner. For what both brought in the bottom 6 and the PK they're both in my opinion worth more than what Spooner gives you on the ice and in a trade.

Dealing Spooner for anything worthwhile to me means you're fleecing a GM. Not happening with Sweeney.

Rules are rules. They probably protected spoons so that they can salvage assets for him after the draft. Perhaps Sweeney can work a trade with Vegas to trade spooner for one of their drafted players?

Would anyone be open to landing James Neal if the price were spooner, a conditional 1st and either a mid round pick or a B prospect as a sweetener?

I'm trying to think of a smart trade that would involve Spoons but that would be relying on Sweeney to get it done and I am hesitant to get my hopes up.

I understand and like the thought process here. I can't go hypocritical because of my love for the sweater. Neal is a piece of poop and I rather not see him here. They just got rid of that puke Rinaldo.

It is incredible how much you guys undervalue Spooner. You guys cry about the Bruins and how they stick to sand paper type players yet we want to banish one of our young talented forwards because they arent strong on the boards yet.

You guys want speed but want to get rid of one of our more elusive players. It boggles my mind.

When is this going to happen with Spooner exactly? It's not like he hasn't been given plenty of chances. He doesn't produce at wing and is a liability as a center because he is weak. It is absolutely not crying for something while simultaneously throwing it away. He is not going to pan out. Time to move on.

EDIT: Time to see what Senyshyn, DeBrusk, JF-K, Bjork, Cehlarik ect can offer.

Dropping the fact that Spooner is a career minus player, I think the general consensus is to add skilled players of VALUE to the team.

Spooner can go flourish on a team that needs a soft, peripheral player who gets half his points on the power play and sucks nuts 5 vs. 5.

You call it undervaluing, when really it is you overvaluing what Spooner actually is. He isnt what Seguin was. Or what Thornton was. His Ceiling isnt going to be an 80 point player. The team that gets him will be lucky to get an inconsistent 30-50 point player that lives on the 2nd powerplay unit and someone the team can't depend on not to be a dippoop in high pressure situations.

I would however enjoy the amount of hate having both Neal and Marchand. It would be almost as bad as Brady putting on a B's Sweater and lacing them up. (frank)ing cry babies.

Honestly need to look at the options. But Neal is one of the streaky guys too. When he gets on a tear, he lights it up.

I think he would benefit from having a good setup guy and fill a roll similar to Horton (when he was healthy). Neal is more of a doucher, but they wanted a scoring winger right? Neal can score.

I am not calling him Seguin but he has put up 50 and 40 pts the last two years. If he improves his strength on the puck he could be a very solid player. He is only 25.

Agreed. Reebok got weird with stuff like that and piping(thankfully not the Bruins though). I thinking cleaning up that lettering was really all that was needed.

It's 100% on him to do that. He can't blame Julien anymore. He did less for Cassidy.

Half of his points come on the PP though. Would have to see much more 5 vs. 5 to convince me. Spooner needs a lot of space to be creative, and would benefit much more from a system that is more free wheeling. He can improve his strength, but that doesnt necessarily mean he wont shy away from the physical play. You dont see spoons digging in the corners, winning battles or busting his ass to backcheck. After 200+ games, I think we have seen what habits we can expect from the player.

Cassidy also rolled Riley Nash and Dominic Moore as our 2nd line for the series against Ottawa. Which limited the Bruins incredibly.

Spooner will have a good year this year. Book it.
