Agreed. Sakic has been put under a microscope and he's been trying to do a lot behind the scenes to make the Avs better. The Butcher situation is a mess that he inherited; he had to tell him that he wanted to sign him after Roy told him that he didn't want to sign him at any point. He just got done purging the assistants. Thank God the Brad Stuart situation is behind us. Now he needs to maximize the return for Duchene. (as much as it pains me to admit and I think the team he will be dealt to will be NYI) The future up to this point looks better, we are all waiting to see what they do from here on out but I think he wants to do his very best because he loves this franchise and I trust most of his decisions.

I dont fault eitehr side for the Butcher thing. He is an AHL dman before last season began, he had a strong season and vaulted his value, but I dont see him as an NHL dman, he still needs to be in the AHL.

However it sounds like he believes he is an NHL dman and wants that shot, well good on him. Last I heard is that he is waiting for the draft to be done to see what teh Avs depth chart is. Avs are over hauling their D so does he want to sign in a place that he would be 8th or 9th on the depth chart, or look for a spot that he could be 5th or 6th?

Yeah I could see that from his standpoint, his value is sky high right now but he's had zero NHL experience and I agree at best he will be fighting for the 5th or 6th spot. Gonna be interesting to see with Mironov, Bigras, Wiercioch maybe, Siemens, Geertsen, Lindholm where everyone fits. I really liked what I saw from Lindholm last year, kid still has much to learn but is a competitor.

Although I really would hate to see Pickard go, the Avs made the right move by protecting Varly. Picks will most likely never become a starter. Varly has proved he can be the guy for many seasons. If his recovery process goes smoothly this is finally the surgery he needed to get himself back on track. He didnt need anymore "tweaking" he needed to be shut down and have time to fully heal.Backup goalies come and they go. There is also lots of goalie talent available in the expansion draft, whether it be Fleury, Grubauer, Raantta, Subban, Mrazek, even Mason as a UFA. (I cant spell the names but you get the point).

The Comeau thing is a tough one to figure out. You have to assume there are a lot of head games going on behind the scenes on who to expose to bait Vegas into taking the players you dont want. Ex, exposing Girgs may potentially keep them away from Picks and Barbs. If they exposed Comeau they wouldnt even think twice about taking him and grab either of those two we really dont want to see go.

Heres hoping for a sexy return from either Carolina, or the NYI, for Duchene!
