Rebuild is over? Just because most of your high end picks are now hitting the NHL doesn''t mean it's OVER. Think of a rebuild as more of a train going down the tracks. Slow at first. Then building speed to fast. Then decelerateing. MAYBE that's where the Leafs are. Also realize that Vegas can only pick ONE player from each team. Leafs will only lose one of these prospects at most. A lot of what I read seems to imply teams can lose multiple players. Not so. |

Yep from an outsider's perspective.
Soooo obviously dumb that ShanaLouCockBas must have done it for a very good reason. Let's wait and see what that reason is.
Either way we might lose Fehr, Rychel or Leipsic. Oh well. (And I wanted Rychel to replace Martin.) |

Not quite.
How many guys out there are 6'3" 220lbs, can skate and isn't a complete slug out there, capable of 8-10 goals with L4 minutes, has pretty much lead the league in hits for the past five seasons, will scrap anyone, polices for a team half filled with rookies and appears to be a rock solid team guy? |

They signed that "dime a dozen" player to a multi year contract.
They value that "dime a dozen" player enough to give him that contract.
They protected that "dime a dozen" player so he would get claimed....even though his contract and term and skill level are bad especially for a "dime a dozen" player.
They KNOW that "dime a dozen" player in a very different way than you do.
I'll go with them.
Besides....who gives a (frank)!?!?!?!? It's one god damn player. Whiner. |

One could argue the rebuild started with kadri, with how many top ten picks we've had since then really. I think we are more so in the tweaking stage now and see how it goes. Still not rushed to do anything dumb and blow the rebuild |

We weren't rebuilding! we just sucked! and agree that they won't be getting to crazy with prospects /picks! But they'll be moving out some! they'll evaluate who's been around for a while and might be at a stage of quality over quantity?imo |

I don't fully disagree....and the whiner comment in my last post was jokingly but didn't come pff that way, sorry...
My only point is that we, the common folk, don't have access to all of the real info.
The management team seems to be pretty smart. Seems to be making good moves. Seems to be taking the team in the right direction.
That being said, for something that seems so obvious to us....protecting Martin not Rychel or Leip....there has to be a decent reason.
Could be a long game happening or maybe they're just showing loyalty to Martin, the team and the rest of the league. Who knows.
I just think there has to be method to their madness. (if this was Nonis, not so much.) |

Who cares if Rychel gets claimed...he's an AHLer who is really nothing special. There is a good chance he won't ever be as good as Martin.
Stop complaining about losing a (frank)ing depth guy for the Marlies |

Martin seems be be a guy that the core of young players and management really seem to like. Maybe they just want to keep him. My comment that they should have protected Rychle was because I don't think Vegas would take Martin. Imagine how the young kids would feel if they lost a buddy and protector on the team as opposed to an AHL plug.
People on the inside generally know more than we do! |

It's not (just) a question about Martin vs. Rychel.
What seems a bit awkward is that Leivo was protected over Rychel.
Rychel is generally considered as a player that has top6 potential; unlike Martin. I find it very odd that he was not protected; surely Toronto and LV have struck a deal of some sorts.
I like Leivo as well. Might not have the potential of Rychel, but somehow always seems to play quite well for Leafs (and Marlies). Good to see he'll be given another chance (if not traded). Seems Leivo convinced Leafs' management that he's worth staying on the team (last off-season contract talks did not run as smooth if I remember well).
BTW I think it's a good choice to have protected Martin.
Hope Leafs can get a good d-man (or two) from LV; maybe they even trade JVR to LV . (JVR is a better option for LV than Ryan or Grabner for sure!). |

Leivo has done nothing but show he can skate, hit, plays hard along the boards and can score! He needs at least? 30 straight game or so opportunity to maybe really see what's their, he's to be battling shosh for playing time and imo leivo has better hands! |
