That's very Sweeneyesq. Not as bad as when the Flames were going to offer sheet Ryan O'Reilly without knowing he'd then have to go through waivers to play in the NHL again

This expansion draft is really messed up, knowing the list of players available doesnt help much until you know how the side deals play out.

Also its weird you have to trade picks or prospects for your own player

I think it makes more sense for LV to ask for a specific prospect to be included in order for them to take player x from a team, as opposed to getting picks (even if 1st rounders).

e.g. LV takes Plekanec (6mln) if Mtl sends them McCarron or Fucale
LV takes Dustin Brown if LA sends them Kempe
etc.

LV needs to worry about AHL roster as well I understand, so makes sense to get some good prospects and other players that don't need to go through waivers pre-season.

GM's who were/are losing really good players are extremely pissed and frustrated that other gms were going to reap the benefits obviously including Vegas! They don't want to lose these players they've been developing and are a part of their future! So their giving up 1st rounders and possibly non protection players, to do so

true. they won't end up with 30 players who have to clear waivers. they'll be a few deals with that concept.

i think i've seen rumors of up to 7 side deals already in place; but who knows.

Holland also once upon a time told Marian Hossa he had no cap space to re-sign him because he had to ear mark 3 million for Jiri Hudler. So he offered Hossa 4.5 million a year after he signed in Detroit for 7 million the summer before. Oops. Hudler signed in Russia and Kenny boy signed Jason 'I stink' Williams. Hossa goes on to win 3 Cups with Chicago.
