As per @DhaliwalSports, the #Canucks are likely to not re-sign Alex Grenie
The #Canucks have talked with Michael Chaput's agent and will let him know after the draft on if they are going to qualify his contract. - VANTEL

Yeah, I know.
Grenier could have made a career as a 4th liner with decent hands if he played a physical game. If Canuck fans want the next wave to have a stronger backbone and strong worth ethic then you probably want AHL vets who play with one to create that mentality. Ideally you have 2-3 of them who can put up points as well to help out guys like Virtanen and potentially Goldobin.
Chaput seems like the type of guy who plays at 110% all night unlike Grenier and can score at the AHL level so I'd re-sign him. |

We are the luckiest bunch on hockey buzz, to have by far the best blogger in Carol.
If we had say, that guy who does the Washington/Arizona/Trump blogs we would have a 100 pages of complaining about his opinions.
Keep up the GREAT WORK Carol... it is much appreciated by this person. - Reubenkincade

I agree.
Grenier, much like Pedan, is a tease, tonnes of natural talent and physical gifts but not very smart or consistent enough. I thought Chaput was decent enough to get a similar deal.
Labate and McEnemy are the only Utica players I would be disappointed to see walk. |

People's expectations were set by this mgmt's teams stated expectations of "retooling on the fly". I think most people knew it was a dumb idea that wouldn't accomplish much and lo and behold we are 4 years later, with the best players on the team still coming from the previous regime.
It was time for Gillis to go and he deserves criticism for many of his decisions but the suggestion that there was a massive mess to clean up or that it would take 5-10 years to clean up is asinine. - belcherbd
lol the 'best' players on the team being the Sedins from the Burke regime or Edler Tanev from the Gillis regime? yet here we are as many predicted coming up to year 4-5 and still we are paying for Gillis' crap and trying to move contracts and aging players.
My advice to you would be to take a page out of the Flames 10 NTC book from 2004 and read it. That regime handcuffed that team for almost a decade and we are mirroring that situation almost to a tee. But hey, tell yourself what you need to brah

Disagree, he moved Bernier and Phaneuf. Kessel was done by the committee between him and Nonis. Still has Bozak, JVR, Lupul, Horton/Clarkson contract on the books, among many other young players from the previous regime and was fortunate to get good draft picks like Marner and Nylander gifted to him and luck in the lottery in Matthews.
A lot of things were heading in the right direction for the Leafs before he was brought in IMO. He has done well, but didnt do a lot of the dirty work in cleaning up |

Phaneuf
Kessel
Bernier
Lupul/Robidas have been Malhotra'd by Lou, both LTIR until their deals are done
He got rid of Clarkson's contract for Horton's LTIR which was amazing
Lol at JVR being a "bad contract"
Bozak is overpaid, but the guy just had a pretty decent season and going by Sutter's contract, he's getting 3LC money which is what he is. |

Kessel was done before Lou was hired by Dubas/Hunter/Shanahan: Nonis was fired April 12, Lou hired July 23, Kessel trade July 1
Nonis got rid of Clarkson's contract
Didnt say JVR was a bad contract, but it was a larger one for a player in his prime that was carried over... essentially saying he didnt "clean house"
For your edit: I dont think they are necessarily bad contracts, but cleaning house to me is clearing out the core. In the same sentiment people would like to move Canuck players to start fresh, the Leafs didnt necessarily do the same |

Btw Bob Murray looks like a (frank)ing idiot right now by trading for Bieksa amd signing him to a deal with a NTC. He could have protected Manson and traded Vatanen, and he'd be Gucci. |

I seen a lot of discussion on the last 20 pages. It is an old and tiring subject for some but is summer and not much current news happening so old topics keep popping up.
No one is name calling or getting angry so I don't understand the frustration. If the topic bothers you then start a new topic and we will jump in. - VANTEL

The five-hole equals the Canucks’ highest draft position since Daniel and Henrik Sedin were selected second- and third-overall by Brian Burke in 1999. And with four picks in the top 64 spots and six selections in the first four rounds, the Canucks haven’t had this many at-bats in the top half of the draft since the NHL was a 26-team league 20 years ago. http://www.sportsnet.ca/h...s-2017-nhl-draft-preview/
Despite how bad the team has been the last few years, this is still impressive to see. The fact that the team managed to stay good for so long despite having nothing to show for so many drafts is kind of crazy |
