you all really think the GM decides ice time and what Virtanen eats for breakfast?

give me a break.

- Crazybagoham

Development is an organizational plan, do I think Benning as the GM is responsible for the outcome of the organizations prospects, you're God damned right I do.

I know someone in the Wings organization and Ken Holland is responsible for how Detroit develops their prospects, people within the organization follow it to a T!

No I was referring to making Ice Time available for practice facilities not how much he plays in a game

No I think Green handed 40 box of Corn Flakes and 40 liters of milk handing them out to the staff as they boarded the buses and made sure they brought camping gear to sleep in when they went on the road

- VANTEL

then Jake thought it was for him and ate it all

Nah I was just trying to defend JB a little, Willie wasn't a great NHL coach, especially with the young guys.

At the end of the day JB hired that clown, so who's the fool I suppose.

yeah so you might say that development (playing time, nutrition, fitness) are handled by the coaches and training staff, not the GMs? All I was getting at.
- Crazybagoham

So you think the coaches book 30 hotel rooms and places to eat when they are on the road , or the coach uses his credit card to bring in gym equipment?

don't they just book a hotel near the rink? they workout and usually eat at the rink or as adults eat on their own? I think we are over estimating how much Jim Benning actually does in this organization

I don't think you grasp how much work is involved in being a GM , they aren't just pretty faces

Except we have a president of hockey ops? You don't even know how much of the workload JB even handles, so anyone outside the organization can't really make assumptions.

I don't think you grasp how much work Assistant GMs and secretaries/scouts do. JB occasionally travels, but mainly he just goes to GM meetings, such a hard workload.

Alright, cool off?

Holland also doesn't have a micromanaged Aquilini organization.

Wow

That all falls under the GM . All the assistants coaches players answer to the GM . Linden is a hand shaker and baby kisser.

just because he's the boss of these people, and makes the overall plan, doesn't mean he does all the work. Or should take all the blame. Not trying to be confrontational here, but wow. You people seem to think the GM runs the entire organization out of his ass. and has his hands in every single pot.

I've heard about 10 different GMs on the radio in the middle of the season ,middle of the weekday ( I remember Holland being on Tim and Sid) and they will say yaaa I checked for trades like 2 weeks ago but its been pretty quiet, so I try to make it to games. And they never sound rushed for time.

Sounds like a full schedule

A gm will make a callup, some trade calls, but if everything is running smoothly, they won't be busy

Gilman, Larry Robinson , Dan Maloney ,Paul Fenton , John Davidson , Dean Lombardi 'Craig Conroy . If I wanted to I could throw out 30 more names
- VANTEL

That would be 30+ names who inherited the same mess. 😂😂
Thats all we know now & the present & future r still a work in progress.
Its not like Chiapet walking into a 10yr rebuild with good assets.

I like the omelettes at Guildford Station on the weekends. Maybe I'll see JV there one day.

I thought he went into the office everyday , sat at his desk waiting for GMs to phone him , sharpened 6 pencils and read Hockey Buzz all day

I don't know what you are trying to convince me about ? Do you think thowing out some opinions is going to make me change my mind?

He should have started a rebuild three years ago and he hasn't yet begun . He gets a C- from me.

I honestly think they lock him in a room during the day with an unplugged phone, so he won't trade away a 2nd

Well drafting and trading are two different things. But you can grade him however you like I believe I gave Jim a B- in my last ratings
- CanuckDon

I give JB a B in trading.
C+ for drafting til JV & OJ etc show their worth.
JB could be a B or D very easily once his picks mature.

30 names to clean up the current mess is more like it.

Benning had better get it right this draft because if he goes into his 5th draft next year not having produced a quality NHL player yet, it'd be truly embarrassing for him and ownership.
- LeftCoaster

Boeser projecting just fine.
Demko grooming very nicely.
Tryamkin is not lost forever.
Gaudette had a huge 1st NCAA & only time/patience til he makes his debut.

Those r solid picks to date with others still developing.

Virtanen needs to get 20 goals.... ASAP. He seems to be the measuring stick for JBs drafting skill. I Agree, we got him to draft young talent.

JV will forever be JB's achilles heel til he proves otherwise.
