He's successful because he's playing where he should be. On a 3rd pairing and on the power play time. We never did that with him here and he competed about as hard as Eberle. Good on him that he doing well but he needed to go, just like Ebs will right away here.
- Ihatebrianburke

Did you watch the playoffs at all? He was not third pairing.

And why can Sullivan use him correctly but Todd couldn't?

I don't think it's so much Sullivan's coaching as it is Gonchar's. It would make a whole lot of sense if he were able to understand and maximize Schultz's talents better than Jim Johnson was.

Schultz isn't a 3rd pairing D in Pitts, Putz.

Then the two of them would get down on their knees and do some gobbling.

I think it's less about veteran UFAs and more about college UFAs. We've been able to tap into that market lately due to the team's willingness to leave a spot somewhat open for them (and the McDavid effect). If we were move Benning so soon after he chose to come here, we might negate some of the appeal for players choosing to come here. I think that's more what he meant.

Regardless it's more fan fiction than anything.

Yeah because that's all that was different...

Had nothing to do with a healthy Klefbom, Hart candidate McJesus or an all star season from Talbot. And even with all that people forget how close we were still to the Flames.

Chia as gm of the year or Todd as coach of the year are a joke.

- Iggysbff

Both their scoring and goals against actually sky rocketed to the top 10 in the league. So ywah, it did help a lot. Hall isn't that great of a player. Larsson helps a lot more.

Also they went from second last to the second round sooo

Looking at the expansion lists as well as the deals we have enough info on as of now, this roster leaves a lot of options available for Edmonton to fill some holes
.

*I think Chiarelli will try to make a deal to have them not take him

Gotta figure we could acquire at least one of those Dmen and a forward in a trade sending them Eberle. Maybe get Dumba if we added a pick. Perhaps a package of Eakin or Karlsson, Miller and a pick for Eberle. At worst maybe grab Enstrom for a pick next year as our fill-in for Sekera.

- MaximumBone

If we could get Karlsson and one of Dumba/Manson for Eberle, our 1st and Benson I would be tickled pink.

Deals are already in place though. Don't expect McPhee to go back on his word and change a deal.

Sure it did have something to do with Talbot, MCD and Klef, but it also had something to do with Russell and Larsson. Maroon and Lucic. Sekera and Benning and Kassian. Plus Caggula and Letestu. All these guys were brought in by the current management team.

And Edm beat Cgy by 9 points, and improved by ~30. Cgy is not the team's visual benchmark so who gives a (frank) about them. The Oil were 2 points from taking the division title, that is more important than where they were in relation to the Flames. Stop the strawman arguments.

Not necessarily. The second pairing could be any combination of Schultz, Daley, Maatta or Cole. Beyond the first 20 or so games of the year, Schultz regularly saw more than 20 minutes on the ice per game- even when Letang was in the lineup. It's fine to dislike the guy but there's no arguing his importance to that team both this year and going forward.

Whether we like it or not, he acquitted himself excellently on the top pairing this year and was integral to his team winning a 2nd Cup.

Manson is the apple that Anaheim made a deal to protect so there's no chance we get him. Dumba, on the other hand, would definitely be worth pursuing. As I don't think Eberle would get both pieces, I'd consider moving Nuge if it returned Dumba and a C (Eakin, Karlsson or Sissons if they defy expectation and don't pick Neal).

Straw man arguement?

You deny that the flames got peewee level tending against the oil this season? Even league average would have swung two games in their favor. Moving that point differential to 1. Visual benchmark? Talk about straw man arguement.
