These are the types of moves I wanted our GM to make for a long time. Going back to Darcy. There are guys every year who are traded or criminally under paid that we never seem to get

At worst, we replaced Franson with a guy who can actually skate.

At best, we have our version of what the Pens did with Schultz

- sbroads24

Your Franson comparison is an interesting way to look at it
But if he struggles with his decision making,
He & Bogosian could end up being a pretty horrible 3rd pair

If he becomes our "Schultz" though, obviously that would be awesome
Here's hoping

Speaking of Schultz...
if I'm Vegas (assh0les), I'm not taking Fleury
I'd pick either Schultz or Dumoulin

ALL the NHL experts were predicting tons of movement
Just ended up being lame instead of super fun

Know what I mean?

- jdfitz77

Just goes to show you how expert they are. And of course they're going to say it's going to be busy, otherwise people won't watch their shows, or go to their websites. When you're a cynical wiener like me it's pretty easy to see through that bullpoop.

neither of them will be exposed though, they'll just protect four d-men.

Serious question, and I posed this in march:

Could we have dressed Ulmark as a winger during the last game of the year and said we're converting him to a winger in order to protect him?

- jcragcrumple

No. That's clearly circumvention. Just like Kovalchuk totally would've played those last few seasons for $500K or whatever it was.

Honestly, I'm not sure that Brodin is that much better.

That is music to my ears then. I hope this is what we come to expect out of Botterill...sound, educated risks and low payouts.

Not just making it up, I'm sure they were hoping for it, we all were. But there's a difference between hoping for something and saying it will happen. And if you're looking down the barrel of a real job you're going to stretch the truth for all it's worth and then some.

It's also in how you read it. All I ever saw was that so and so COULD be on the move. You chose to interpret it as everyone is moving.

Good point

That means they'll definitely expose Hagelin
And then have a choice between Hornqvist or Rust

If they leave Rust unprotected, that's who I'd take if I'm Vegas
He's only 24

If it's Hornqvist, I'd take him & look to trade him...
either right away or at the deadline (last year of his contract)

Regardless,
I'm passing on Fleury

Ya on Sirius XM........it used to be SUPER biased in favor of Tronna....its now expanded its love affair to the original six and, of course, McDavid and Crosby

they ragged on Nashville literally the entire playoffs..almost as if it was a joke to think that they had a chance against the Pens

No need to rush Guhle. He needs some time in the AHL.

in the mock one i did i had rust protected and hagelin exposed. Hagelin might have trade value, hornqvist not so much. I think Fleury's the obvious choice because it stabilizes their goaltending short term till whichever goalie they invest in is ready.

They probably have a deal on the weekends when nothing is going on. Kind of like how WGR is almost exclusively ESPN on Sundays where they repeat the same 3 shows all goddamn day.

Was at work today so I missed the trade but did some pretty extensive back reading and tgwitter viewpoints...

I like the move if it's in addition to one for a TRUE partner for Risto. The BADgosian comparisons scare me considering he makes me want to pull my hair out every time I watch his clueless zone play. Hopefully Beaulieu will be better than that.

As I see it right now we still need 1 more in the top four. I'm unsure of where Antipin will play LHD or RHD? I know he's a leftie but I thought he played on the right? Assuming he does...

X Risto
Beaulieu Antipin
McCabe BADgosian
Gorges

Or...

McCabe Risto
Beaulieu Antipin
X BADgosian
Gorges

I'd like to get another top four player though, preferably on the left side. Those saying (frank)ing Gorges and BADgosian will start on 2nd pair over Antipin and Beaulieu have probably never watched hockey in their lives.

Yeah, plus he's got a nice big contract and they're going to need some money from somewhere.

Hagelin had a rough year
I think Hornqvist is a better player
With his power forward type style,
a playoff team will definitely want him at the deadline

Is Fleury that much better than say Grubauer?
They could always take a guy like Howard,
Detroit doesn't really have much to choose from unless they think Sheehan can turn around
Or even just sign someone like Nilsson or Chad Johnson

Very happy with Botterill's first significant move as GM. Low risk, significant upside for a 3rd rounder. The Sabres just got incrementally better today based on this move. A modest step in the right direction. One more move on D (top 4) and we will be in much better shape than we were at the end of the season.

Can't wait to see what Housley can do with all of "project" defencemen the Sabres have.
