If you take say, Anaheim and vatanen are gms offering better than say a first rounder? If I'm the ducks I'd much rather lose picks and lower end guys, then someone like vatanen. I get what your saying, but I'm assuming teams in a bind offered a lot to vegas via picks so they could keep their established guys.

Foley paid 500 mill of his own money, did you actually think he was going to get teams crap players, he's wasn't going to get other teams 3rd and 4th line players to play on the 1st and 2nd lines. This is completely different then other expansion years. Nobody is holding a gun to teams heads, you want to keep your " good " players, then you gotta give up to protect them, plain and simple. They're the only reason today was a thing at all. This makes no sense. If there was no expansion there would be no deadline. And no reason to move anyone until the draft and players that are in Evander's situation start to get traded.
