It's interesting.

We all think the guy is an utter tire fire.

Craig Rivet spent lots of time on the Instigators this am talking as if Bogo could really thrive under Housley because his skill set is something Housley can really amplify

I'm sure Rivet knows a hell of a lot more about NHL defensive play than I do.

- Der Kaiser

if he does what he says and plays to the players strengths, unlike "Disco," then there's no reason to think bogo and other players won't be better

What if we use your idea:

Risto McCabe
Trouba Bogo
Guhle Antipin

If the cards fall right, that could get very dynamic very quickly.

- Der Kaiser

This i could get behind. Maybe someone like brendan smith too.

Edit: in addition to trouba i mean

1) i had a better chance getting scarlett johansson's number while she was in edinburgh than bogosian does of being fully healthy.

2) this isnt even entirely accurate, he looks far more engaged and his legs are moving better but between the ears in his own end is still a nightmare even when "healthy". The guy needs to change his role more than anything else. labelling him as a shut down guy (no doubt thanks to the idea that hits equals defence) ruined his career

- Sabresfan-365

I agree with a lot of that...
But it seems to me that he makes a lot of his bonehead mistakes when he isn't playing at 100%
I think he loses confidence when he can't play physical

I feel like some health + Housley could really help him
I'm also not counting on it though...
still want us to bring in 2 top4 guys

I don't hate him, but he's generally underachieved for years
And with his pretty good playoffs, he'll probably get overpaid

Definitely not betting on it...
but it's a scenario I could see play out
Not saying he would turn into a top pair guy or anything

Like u said,
Using him in the right role will help a lot too

Bogo might be better under Housley, but Bylsma wasn't the reason he gets injured 4 times every year

you're right though confidence is a factor too. at one point bogosian was among the best in the league at getting pucks to the net from the point (yes someone actually tracked this lol) and then he just sorta took a nosedive.

Smith in detroit was misused as well though. Generally speaking his defensive numbers and transition game is very good. reminds me of a lesser gardiner and we (risto) could use one.

I think Makar is really risky, high ceiling... but high bust potential too
Idk if I wanna trade up for him

Haven't seen him enough to say for sure

I am still of the mindset that we need to move Kane and hold onto Reinhart. I don't think Reinhart will get us the return we are hoping for and Kane will more than likely look for a bigger paycheque somewhere else next year anyway. No one is willing to pay a premium for rentals and we are well aware of after the last trade deadline, so its now or never to move Kane.

Idk...
it would make me really nervous to give him a long term deal at the $$$ he will likely command

When guys don't do well in Detroit,
it's not usually bc Babcock used them wrong

Why? ROR is Mr. Hockey - Kyle Okposo is Mr. Hockey

Evander Kane peaked when we needed him to the most -

Brayden McNabb may go to Vegas -

Lehner was a miss - but Tyler Myers will most likely never play again, Drew Stafford is washed up, Brendan Lemieux? Where is he? Joel Armia? Winnipeg is STACKED and couldn't make the playoffs.

Bogosian is a miss - no doubt - but he at least has time to recover and is expected to play big minutes, and if he does recover, teh contract wont be as bad in a few years.

- -JCDC-

So you want our new GM to be exactly like Tm ? The guy that absolutely destroyed our depth in our organization wasted countless draft choices did not have a back up play for vesey did absolutely nothing at the trade deadline
Drafted Sam Rinehart when he's a scout first GM etc etc

I think people have a tendency to underestimate the role that confidence plays in success

We had to take Reinhart - no guarantee on Eichel - other than Draisatl....Sam Bennett?

Maybe he burned a few, but I like what we got back. We won the Kane trade, WON the ROR trade -

Vesey was ugly - but lets be candid - he was banking on Eichel reeling him in on that summer squad last year.....Vesey sucks anyways

Yes, yes, and yes big time. If Eichel was not on our team TM would have never made a stab as Vesey

Bogos falls under this. He is a strong player who looked like he was lacking in confidence all year.

I would not trade up for him personally. I find more value in trading down if hes not there at 8
