I want duchene over Thornton if Thornton is coming in at 5.5 mil. If ek is even relatively right about the pens inquiring about duchene, I want him everyday over Thornton. I'm not discrediting Thornton, but duchene has wheels and would probably mesh with our playing style better than Thornton would.

But hey, I'd (frank)ing love Thornton too. What a predicament to have.

Duchene is gonna cost an arm and a leg and could/will probably walk for a pay day in two years. Jumbo costs us nothing but cap space. Thornton is the clear play here unless the Avs are selling low.

Sign Brendan Smith. Sign Nesterov. Blueger, DP, and a 2nd to NJ for Kovalchuk. Re-sign Dumo, Schultz, and Sheary.

Sheary - Sid - Guentzel
Hagelin - Geno - Kessel
Kovalchuk - Sundqvist - Rust
Wilson - Rowney - Horny

Smith - Letang
Maatta - Schultz
Dumo - Nesterov

Zero chance Pens go with Rowns and Sundq as their 3 and 4 centers. When Crosby or Malkin get hurt, we all know its going to happen...you aren't going to play either of those guys as a 2C. They love having great center depth...what a stupid flocking post.

When GMJR says he'll add toughness I have to believe he'll do that. He's been very open about his moves and intentions. My guess is he adds Phaneuf or EKane

A 5 or 7 million dollar contract depending on which one. Not a good idea and in my opinion not likely.

I could actually see this if they eat some of the contract.

He's an OK second pairing guy. There better be a (frank) ton of contract being eaten if we're even considering him. He's an at most 4 mil AAV guy.

Yikes... I dont think you can bite on 4 years left of declining Phaneuf. Been solid 30 pt guy in season but I thought our team was built on more mobile dmen. Seems like we'd be going in the wrong direction.

I totally agree. I don't like Dion at all and he's hard to root for. I will be so disappointed if we acquire him at max salary retained and will be pissed if we get him with less than max salary retained.

I like EKane, but the cost will be high for a guy that URF in a year and will get 6-7 million per after.

Agreed 100 percent, C is the strength of 3 cup teams. The Pens will sign or trade for a 3C. Rowney/Sunqvist 4th line center/13th forward if Cullen retires.

I could see the Pens offering Maatta, 31st overall pick and a top prospect for Duchene.

If they make any splash moves, I sure as hell hope it's on defense. I know Trouba isn't going to happen, but I can dream.

The first 2 Cup teams had some pretty good centers as well. #HOF

That's the problem with adding toughness, if it can actually play, you have to pay extra for it.

exactly this.

im all ears to suggestions, but if people want to name toughness that can play its a short short list. and as you point out, a valuable one.

I have no issue giving up assets to acquire EKane, but it needs to be a Drouin type situation in which he agrees to an extension... I think Duchene has more value, Would play with Kessel and Hags on the third line.

Which brings up anotger problem, Pens probably have the tradable assets to make a splashy deal, but do they have enough for 2? If they trade for Kane, can they still deal for a stud 3C or 2D?

On Duchene specifically, I don't think we line up well. They are asking for the world and think they'll get it from a team desperate for a top 2 line center. They are looking for a stud defenseman and don't think they'll consider Maatta that.
