They also have Kylington close to being ready as a LHD and Andersson close to being ready as a RHD. They aren't looking for D. Also have Dougie Hamiltion.

I have read a few rumors they would like to do the Nashville route and get a 4th stud defenseman and let those young guys grow slow as a 3rd pair. That part I believe, just don't see Maatta as a target.

Bennett's not actually available though so this is pretty unlikely.

I mean doesn't every team want 4 stud D men. And yes don't even know where this poster got the Bennett idea from.

CGY would have 0 interest in Maatta. Sundqvist and Rust are bums. Try again or simply delete your account.
- Feds91Stammer

While I agree that Calgary doesnt need Maata and Sundquist is massively overrated by Pens fans, Rust is a different story.

He has scored as many clutch goals as anyone for the Pens during the cup runs. He is a really solid player and still on an entry level deal. He's a keeper for the Pens.

I believe Bennett is an RFA, so an offer sheet is possible.

However, I agree Sam Bennett is very unlikely anytime soon. But Joe Thornton is also very, very unlikely and I believe a younger player with much potential would be a much better way for the Pens to go.

Jesus I guess we have entered the season of stupid offer sheet posts.

Rust is a solid 3rd line player. The value in him is that he is still extremely cheap for 1 more season.

No thanks on Jumbo Joe. Bonino would like to stay and I feel will take a home town discount.

Reading between the lines GMJR said yesterday for the players to test free agency and then come back to the team with other teams offers, basically meaning he will allow the players to make their own choices what they want to do, that being stay or go.

Kunitz and Bonino will be back on very respectable contracts. I don't feel Bonino will price himself out when in his interview yesterday made it very clear he loves living in Pitt and playing for the Pens.

Those offer sheets never work and when they do the team ends up regretting the contract.

At least for next year, I'd bet on Thornton over Bennett who is still struggling to find his way. Don't mind your thinking on getting a long term fit, but also realize we are a win now team. It's all about the next few years while Sid and the others are in their prime and guys like Murray and Guentzel are in bargain deals.

I'd maybe look for other targets because I agree Joe is unlikely. But also doesn't make sense to pay a premium on what Bennett might be in a couple years.

Offer Sheet for Sam Bennett would cost future picks and a lot of money! Unless Calgary decided to offer a trade or match the offer sheet!

I personally hope Bonino gets blown out the water from a contract in UFA. He has been criminally underpaid his entire career and deserves a big contract.

I just believe Sam Bennett will be an amazing player in the NHL. If GMJR is looking for physical & skill players, then I hope GMJR targets this type of player: YOUNGER, with great skill, and some grit (Bennett was 4th on CGY forwards in hits with only 14+ TOI last year).

Here is youtube of Bennett scoring some goals. all these goals where in one game!

Here he is with some nice goals and some speed!

I agree, but I don't believe it is all about money with this group of Pens. I believe Nick would turn down a better contract to stay in Pitt on a lesser contract. Everyone on the team doesn't strike me as a "me" first player looking to get huge money, that is what makes this team so special.

Thornton is a fancy name, but not wise use of cap space. There aren't many UFA Cs that can fill the role well. Aside from Bonino, I think Sam Ganger and Mike Fisher are UFA, but of the three...assuming same money I think Fisher or Bonino is who you go for. Doubt Fisher leaves Nashville though.

It would be interesting if Marleau and Thornton want to take huge discount to play together on a contender. If both would come for like 2.5 on 1-2 years terms that could be interesting.

Otherwise, Eaves or ideally Oshie would be awesome to pick up if possible. I'd not underestimate the draw of playing on a contender...they will need to sign a backup, maybe a Brian Elliott?

Bigger problem atm is defense...many many holes to fill.

I think Martin Hanzal would be worth a look although he probably just earned himself a raise after this season.

If Anaheim chooses to protect more Defenseman....could Cogliano be available? He's an ideal 3C, imo.

I am not losing hope in keeping Bonino, but get that he will likely get paid.

I honestly hate the idea of Thorton, but completely understand the logic.

At least make him shave before taking the ice.
