This would make some sense. I'd be willing to part with 4th to give Toronto a bit of incentive to do a deal with us. Not sure that they'd retain half, but I'd accept slightly less, say a minimum of 2.75 million per.

To Toronto: AMac and a 2017 4th round pick
To Philly: Phaneuf with 2.75 million per season retained (cap hit now 4.25 million)

The Flyers would have a better player at a slightly lower cap hit for the next 3 years and they could, if they wished, buy out the last year of Phaneuf's deal and only be on the hook for roughly 60% of the buyout cap penalty, or more likely, they could just trade him with 750K retained. There would likely still be some interest in Phaneuf at that point with only 1 year at a cap hit and salary of 3.5 million.

I like his game. I think you can then run something like
Provorov - Phaneuf,
Hagg - Gudas,
Morin - Gostisbehere.

He can also play PK and match against some top lines. And like Gudas he can add some thump to guys coming across the middle.

I think Ottawa is in a spot they have to move him. If Sanheim shows he is ready in the future maybe you move Gudas who is younger and has a reasonable deal.

I know Phaneuf has a bad rep about him, but I actually think he could work for the Flyers.

LOL this is hilarious...you drunk already?
- YuenglingJagr

Why?
Ottawa already asked him to waive his NMC and were turned down. I guess you don't think that Phaneuf is a better player than AMac? He had 9 goals, 30 points and skated 23 minutes a night for a playoff team, he sure seems like the better player.

So we move someone with a 5 mill cap hit...for someone with a 7 mill cap hit?

That's how I see it, but apparently I'm either drunk (often a safe bet, but not at the moment) or I'm an idiot.

Deal would be dependent on Ottawa retaining at least 40% of the contract.

Also, is anyone planning on going to the draft? I go to university in Chicago and am here working for the summer and thinking of going and I would love to meet up with other Flyer fans
- bulet13

After getting #2 I was highly considering making the trip, but my new job asked me to start a week earlier than initially planned and ruined any possibility

Keeping MacDonald is fine for now. His buyout isn't too bad if they want to go that route next year or the year after. I just wish they'd play him on the third pair. Gudas is far more equipped to handle top pair duties with Provorov.

I'd honestly feel better about seeing what we have with Stolarz than picking up another mediocre goalie.

As for AMac just hold onto him. The scouting department has been doing great work in the middle rounds the last few years. They could make better use of those picks.

Not really.

If you read, the only way would be to get Ottawa to retain money and maybe take a contract like Read.

If they keep say 40-50 % the cap hit is smaller.

If Amac is going to be here, which is very likely, that is what I would do:

Provorov-Gudas
Morin-Ghost
AMac-Hagg
Manning

Third pair next season is Ghost-Morin. I don't want those guys at second pair minutes, yet.

I really wanted to but the airfare is a little more pricey than expected. If you can go though I totally reccommend it. I had a blast at the draft in Philly.

I would almost just rather have Provorov play with Hagg. i understand the youth but I am not a fan of Gudas on the top pair.

Provorov - Hagg
Gudas - MacDonald
Morin - Gostisbehere

Possibly, I'd let the pairings of Hagg/AMac and Morin/Ghost fight it out for the 2nd pairing ice time. Either way, I would expect a Provorov/Gudas pair to log a lot of ice time and the toughest matchups.

Hagg would need to show me night in, night out consistency at the NHL level before I'm putting him on the top pair. However, he could very well earn that promotion during the season.

I get the feeling there will be a lot of rotating on the defense next year. I'm just excited to finally see a lot of the young players funneling through. Seems like we've been waiting forever on some of these guys.

Yeah if they go the pairs you listed Provy-Gudas is looking at 28-30 mins a game as top pair and top PK pair.

I just can't imagine Hagg as a top pair guy. I like his game but I think he rounds out as a high end 4, maybe a 3
