I wouldn't trade our 1st to get rid of anyone on this team. If Moulson can't be given away with a 2nd, let him play here one more year and use a BO next year when it actually makes sense and we need the cap space.
- TheSabresTaco

We don't need to give LV draft picks to take players. 1) we're not in cap hell and 2) we won't lose anybody valuable in the expansion draft. Ullmark, I suppose could be argued if we don't protect him

No, we're not in cap hell. But it would be nice to ditch a poopty salary. None of us has any idea what Bots is planning, but he may need that wing position to open up. He may not want to have to BO Moulson, or other player x. There could be a bunch of reasons why we would bribe vegas to take a guy. Or, to not take a guy.

ullmark could be an issue if we lose and we trade lehner.. then we are at the mercy of a UFA to be our goalie and backup

We would need one of Bailey or Baptiste to have a breakout 20 goal year to sniff the playoffs i think. If we could ditch Moulson and add an even-strength scoring winger, I'd feel a lot better
- jcragcrumple

I don't think that's necessarily true...

The Bruins had 4 guys that had 20+
Montreal had 2 guys get 20+ (although Galchenyuk would broken that if he didn't miss 20 games)

Guys that will likely break 20goals for us...
Jack, Kane, O'Reilly, Sam, Okposo

Improved defense will help this team so much 5v5

I thought the Sabres had to upgrade their D desperately? And one of their main cards to play to improve that D was Reinhart. They have two top centers which Reinhart was drafted to play are they going to pay him 4-5 million/yr to play third line center? Do they want to play him wing and pay him that money when his natural position is center? Kane only has one year left on his contract and the player he garners won't put your D over the top for the long term.

our d and overall depth are huge issues.. GMTM killed our pool
- IndianaSabresFan

On defense I agree
We are actually fairly deep at forward
Especially when u consider the age of a lot of the forwards on the Sabres

improved defense through addition and better coaching.. this team if they get one more player on the back end should be in the playoffs if coaching was that big of an issue..

Yeah those two are very interconnected. As constructed now, our team is going to have to score their way out of some jams. We still only have 3 NHL-caliber D men on this roster imo (risto, mccabe and bogo to a lesser extent). Antipin hopefully

I can take no credit for this trade that somebody through out there as Stash shared it, but curious to hear the thoughts of this proposal.

To Vancouver:

E. Kane, Girgensons, 2017 8th overall, 2017 2nd round pick (Wild pick), 4th round pick (not sure which year)

To Buffalo:

Tanev, 2017 5th overall (Buffalo would select Cale Makar), and a 7th round pick

- kingcong39

don't like it... Can't keep giving away draft picks. I'd rather just trade up and get Maker and keep Kane

Forwards are NOT the problem
DEFENSE clearly is

Our forward talent is so wildly underrated
And guys like Nylander, Bailey & Baptiste are gonna provide even more speed & scoring depth

- jdfitz77

Yes, and no.

I think we need someone better than ROR or Okposo to be our #2 guy.

The great teams in this league have multiple great forwards

Stamkos/Kucherov
Crosby Malkin
Toews/Kane
OV/Backstrom/Kuznetsov
Toronto will have three stars in Matthews/Marner/Nylander
McDavid/Draisaitl

I think we should be hunting for that other game breaker

But, my point was that anytime someone brings up moving Sam for D, people act like he should be untouchable. I don't agree with that

I think u can count Antipin,
and probably Guhle too...

as long as we aren't expecting too much from them right away

Optimally,
Bringing in 2 guys for the top4 would put us in good shape

All of this would be a mute point if we picked Draisaitl over Reinhart eh

So then shouldn't we go for offensive depth then?
Back when we had Briere & Drury, they weren't as good as Sid & Malkin, etc
But having 3 lines that could all score made us super dangerous
That's how we should build now too

And the ppl who don't hate on Sam & Kane like u do (yes, u do)...
don't say they're "untouchable"

Optimally we keep them & upgrade the defense with other pieces
Bc trading those guys creates other holes we'd have to fill

Is it possible to upgrade defense without trading Sam & Kane?
I believe so

ROR is pretty much Toews, statistically speaking

Washington hasn't won anything

Neither has Toronto or Edm. Pittsburgh is very lucky, indeed. Their number 2 center is a #1 on about 20 teams

How would we feel about:

Sam Reinhart
2017 1st rounder

to Minnesota for

Jonas Brodin or Matt Dumba
Nino Niederreiter

Whether or not that's true...
WHO GIVES A SH!T?

Comparing them as a method to say "Sam isn't good enough" is BEYOND POINTLESS and quite ridiculous

We drafted Sam
He's young & will only get better

- jdfitz77

This. All. Day. Long.

And that goes, whether he plays for Buffalo or someone else

Reinhart drafted to play center but not good enough going into his third year. Setting the league on fire with 8 5v5 goals in his 2nd year. played center and was given the keys to drive the car when Eichel was out and he showed next to nothing when the Sabres were scoring 1.something goals a game. If he didn't wear the Sabres crest would there be this blind devotion?

Of course we should, never said not to.

As for the bolded, good luck. Fasching+ a 2nd isn't getting you a top 4 D man this offseason. It's going to take a big piece

Yes.

None of the Wild players coming back make me excited enough to give up a first rounder, package or not.
