At least there would be consistency if they did that. Steven Swavely, an ECHLer with 3 career AHL points played 16 games this year......and got into every playoff game over Fazleev who is a much better player and played 65 (!) games for the Phantoms. Where's the "ride your guys" logic with that? Max Lamarche played 26 games this year, half of which were down the stretch when he played over Friedman, who could have gotten in a dozen games before the playoffs to get up to speed......he looked pretty great in his 1 game fwiw. I think most sensible Phantoms fans are more pissed about Friedman, older and coming off 3 years against college men and who was with the team for a month practicing, not playing than Myers who only just joined immediately before the playoffs.

People act like it's so strange to see prospects, often better than minor league journeymen, get into late season action when their season ends. Like it's not done constantly. Charlie McAvoy made his NHL debut playing playoff hockey for the Bruins after 4 AHL games. Werenski was a key late add for last year's Calder Cup champs, the Erie Monsters. It's done every year many many times for less notable prospects. Maybe it would've helped the Phantoms. It certainly would have helped the prospects.

Myers and Friedman joined the team at the very end of the season.

LaMarche was called up from the ECHL on 3/13.

Friedman signed his ELC on 3/21, a whole eight days later.

From the posts I've been reading it doesn't sound like the ECHL is a higher level of hockey than the NCAA.

There is no consistency and there should not be consistency when it comes to a player development league like the AHL.

That's a very weak excuse for why inferior players like LaMarche and Swavely were called up from the ECHL to play in the most important games of the season over actual prospects like Fazleev, Friedman and Willcox.

League says no announcements of trades until the expansion draft. So rumors and talk is all you're going to get. Heaven forbid they have some press leading up to awards night.

There will be a ton of press on Sunday when the protection lists are announced.

I guess i am ok with allowing guys who have more experience play. Not every players development is the same.

There will be turnover. Friedman will probably be a top 6 regular for the Phantoms this year along with Willcox since there is a good chance Morin and Hagg could be with the Flyers.

I'll trust that the Flyers scouts and coaches know what's best.

Wow, i never thought about it like this.

I guess, just like benching Ghost an Konecny, not playing your young, skilled players over vets is the consistency i want to see, both on the farm team and the parent club.

Not playing the young, skilled players is the best way to develop them.

You know what sometimes it is best. You don't have to agree but in the long run it could help. People have to get over this. If it was so detrimental to them, then maybe they didn't have what it takes to be a pro.

Both players were sat for specific reasons. Both were then reinserted.

Had one in Boston, on the first leg of the trip. Indeed I had a lot of scrumptious seafood on that trip. But I prefer fish to crustaceans. Best meal was probably a swordfish steak.

If you don't mind me asking, how does someone from Alaska become a Flyers fan? I find that pretty cool.

Maybe the same way I, living in Fargo, ND since 1991, am a Flyers fan. Born and raised in South Jersey.

Interesting use of sarcasm. Since forever coaches have been using benching and limiting ice time as a tool for the development of young players. I guess those coaches don't know what they're doing. Perhaps they should consult the fans here on hockeybuzz.
