I really thought there would be more movement leading up to the submission of the protected lists and the trade freeze. So far there's just a lot of rumours and talk. - mayorofangrytown
I kind of did too. But I think everyone is trying to get best value in any trades and really trying to understand what Vegas' plan is. Probably a lot of back room deals and tlks going on. |

My kid was going to play summer hockey with a mens league team out our way and he said a coupe of the guys who showed up at the first practice played with the Royals. Schedule didn't work out for him but he was amazed at how fast they were. - mayorofangrytown
Yep - it's all relative to the level of competition.
TVR also played some roller at the rink I play at, but not in my league. |

Why would you not care about predicting his future play? This doesn't make sense to me at all. As of now, he will be playing for the Flyers in the future. His future play will be one of the factors deciding how the Flyers perform next year.

I don't think we should move that conversation from the other thread to this thread. I'd be happy to discuss it with on the thread where that conversation was taking place. |

I've been to several ECHL games. Basically a collection of players with skill but lacking in both size and skating, players who may have had some ability but insufficient hockey sense or work ethic, plus tough guys (used to be the ECHL's bread and butter) and grinders trying to work their way up the hard way. - bmeltzer
Yeah it was back in the late 90s I went. It was basically all tough guys. |

League says no announcements of trades until the expansion draft. So rumors and talk is all you're going to get. Heaven forbid they have some press leading up to awards night.

They don't want all the picks known before they can do their dog and pony show Wednesday night. |

for us in Alaska, it was a pretty good product and offered an alternative to the woeful University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves hockey program. They were a very good team for years. But, the talent recently lacked and our economy, which is oil driven, has tanked. That lead to much smaller attendance and the Aces folded after last season. I'll miss the hockey. I won't miss the annoying cowbells that the fans liked to use. |

I think that is just trades/signings related to Vegas themselves |

For a couple seasons we had a former ECHL guy on our roller hockey team. Compared to his competition he was really good. - Scoob
We had a guy in my men's ice league. He didn't even really try so that everyone else had a chance. If he actually tried, he basically scored at will.
That's what made me appreciate how good NHL players are. |

I would get behind that.
Can never have enough defensive prospects. Easier to find forwards i believe. |

I'm just trying to figure out what NYI is gonna do. Assuming they go 7/3/1, they're forced to protect Boychuk. They'll want to protect Leddy. That leaves 1 spot for Hamonic, Pulock, and DeHaan. I'm thinking it goes to Hamonic. |

Myers and Friedman joined the team at the very end of the season.
I understand why the team rode with the guys they did. Would I have loved to see our prospects in...Yeah....but i also understand why they weren't.
Also Myers was coming off an injury season. I think that had some play into not playing him and making sure he can get healthy. The Phantoms were a solid team before those guys showed up. - J35Bacher
At least there would be consistency if they did that. Steven Swavely, an ECHLer with 3 career AHL points played 16 games this year......and got into every playoff game over Fazleev who is a much better player and played 65 (!) games for the Phantoms. Where's the "ride your guys" logic with that? Max Lamarche played 26 games this year, half of which were down the stretch when he played over Friedman, who could have gotten in a dozen games before the playoffs to get up to speed......he looked pretty great in his 1 game fwiw. I think most sensible Phantoms fans are more pissed about Friedman, older and coming off 3 years against college men and who was with the team for a month practicing, not playing than Myers who only just joined immediately before the playoffs.
People act like it's so strange to see prospects, often better than minor league journeymen, get into late season action when their season ends. Like it's not done constantly. Charlie McAvoy made his NHL debut playing playoff hockey for the Bruins after 4 AHL games. Werenski was a key late add for last year's Calder Cup champs, the Erie Monsters. It's done every year many many times for less notable prospects. Maybe it would've helped the Phantoms. It certainly would have helped the prospects. |

Well, I know that all of Morin, Sanheim, Hagg, and Myers are already HOFers, but it might be nice to have another one to add to the pile in the short-term. |

What this team needs is a guy who is a PP specialist d-man! Because we have no one to play the PP. |

the trades for those two that everyone raved about are kind of biting the isles here. Hamonic was actually pretty poor last year. Obviously it is well known he previously requested a trade as well, which has been rescinded. It isn't as if they don't have forwards to protect either though. They could truly benefit from an expansion exempt trade |

The Phantoms had a former ECHL guy in their playoff top 6 while Mark Friedman, Phil Myers and Reece Willcox compared notes on their entry level contracts in the press box. |
