Ask Feds what he thinks about that Dekeyser contract lol A lot of those players are players the fans want to get rid of.. Tanev, Dekeyser, Maatta, Murphy... they're all players that hamstring the team because of their not so great contracts that match their not amazing (but okay/good) play. I don't want to get rid of Dumo by any means, but I am just worried they overpay him and fall into the same trap that those teams above did.

Keep him out of this please.

I don't think Dumo or Maatta is worth 4mil.

Out if curiosity, how would you replace both though?

All you asked was if I knew of guys making that with low production.

I don't see the difference we're talking about hamstringing the Pens. Dumo is better than those guys. You get hamstrung when you pay 2M guys 4M.

MAF pretty emotional. I've been hard on him at times but without him the Pens don't advance past Washington and of course we'll always remember that save against the Wings.

The guy is a pure class act!!!

How is Dumo better than those guys? Because I don't see it in any way.

Well I don't want to lose Dumo, I just don't want to overpay him. But I also don't think Smith is going to cost 4mil+ by any means. And I think Smith is better than Dumo. So signing smith is one way to replace Dumo... and I would tirelessly be calling WPG about Trouba or COL about Barrie and offering up Maatta+DP+1st. And I would take serious runs at Shattenkirk in FA.

Other than Smith, those guys are all RD so they don't work as Maatta or Dumoulin replacements. So there's basically one worthwhile free agent and you're expecting to get him under 4M.

I do hear you about overpays. And if I were to assign a value to Dumoulin it would be close to yours, 3.5M. I just don't think in a cap league it's possible to always get everyone at your number especially once you get into UFA years. If the Pens had an internal replacement great. At wing they do, so they can just move on from guys where they don't like the cap number. But Dumo is the team's best LD with the other choices being Maatta, Cole, and Pouliot. Frankly, they need to add two good players there before I move Dumoulin.

I agree with this. I would be willing to bet that Dumo gets at least $4 mil x 5 years. Young top 4 defensemen get paid, especially 2 time Cup champs, regardless of how many points they score.
