only player sabres need to protect is okposo
- homiedclown

Should be interesting come this Saturday.

What are we all going to do with all of our spare time if the Sabres ever put together a real NHL team?

Pittsburgh for sure tanked for Lemieux. So did New Jersey, the Pens just did it "better".
The Penguins did NOT tank for Crosby. The team was lousy and in financial trouble. Plus, the lottery was already in place---they lost the "ovechkin" lottery and had a lottery for which all 30 teams were eligible after the lockout season. Explain to me how they tanked during a season in which no games were played?

Do you even watch the games?

Kaiser,
No doubt you've been Lehner's biggest supporter on here. I think he is good enough, but I think he can look clumsy at times. Any low shots and he starts flopping around like a fish out of water.

He can look clumsy at times and his rebound control needs work. But I look to his improvement through a fitness regimen after the concussion and ankle injuries, and I think that's indicative of a broader willingness (and ability) to improve in areas of need. I think he is quick, I think he is huge, I think he competes hard, and I think his attitude in the locker room is great.

The suggestion that he hasn't made any impressive glove saves is just dumb.

I wouldn't throw him $5Mil, and I'm not sure I would go $4.5Mil, but he isn't a bum.

I'd like him back, but I recognize he still needs work.

Asking price doesn't phase me - a second. I wouldn't do it as there are worse goalies than Lehner.

However, I see no way that Cal signs here.

That's the part I'm laughing about.

Abandon all hope ye who enter here....

Remember when Risto's asking price was 7x7, then it was 6.5 x 6...obviously that ended in a lower number. I'm not saying he isn't asking for 5.5 or whatever number, but I don't think he has any way of getting that as an RFA. If another team would sign him for 5.5M, or over 3.9M for that matter, then we'd get a 1st and a 3rd as compensation. No NHL team would give that up for him, so his bargaining chips are minimal. I'd wager his deal ends up being right around 4M.

We gave up a lot for him and he has played well. If we had a proper defensive core to support he may even turn out to be great. There are not a ton of goalies available and even if we could sign Cal his is unproven.

The FA market and then teams needs will dictate his asking price. His agent will be very keen on keeping an eye on the market this summer.

If he doesn't want to go back over seas though, what pull does he have? I'm sure we won't get him for 2m flat, but if he signed for over 3.9M (I believe) it's a 1st and a 3rd...is there any team that would pay that? If the answer is no then his agent can say 5.5M until he's blue in the face and it won't do anything but stall the negotiations.

he has arbitration rights and decent numbers that could warrant a settlement over 4 easily
