I do not want to look at that face 82 times a year

He looks like a cross of a Sedin and Joey Moss taking a crap.

This kid is going to be make for great troll ammo when he's drafted by the Canucks

- Nucker101

He does come off as a bit of an odd duck but he's certainly a talented player. High ceiling kid.

What's with this draft and the amount of teams rumored or openly willing to give up their 1st rounder for an established D? Even NJ may be willing to do it. Is the confidence in the draft that low or just team needs to win now higher then other times? Either way seems like JB has several opportunities to make deals to add picks.

Hard to think what a trade like that would actually look like. IDK if I would send Grandlund AND Guddy for Galch. Though Guddy definitely is not enough. I think Granlund can get 25g in a full season and is still young.

If anything im hoping to keep Guddy, would rather trade tanev. The canucks are so soft, if we trade Gudbranson, Horvat would be the toughest on the team (unless pedan/Virtanen makes it)

That is a fair point.
The development process for the NFL is totally different though. Most players come from the college programs at 22, then apprentice on special teams teams for a year or 2, before they baecome starters.

Edit I compare nhl more to nba though, as both them leagues tend to have the strength in a handful of teams for few seasons, with several mid quality teams and the 10 or so bad teams.

Also, Bittman was trained in NBA offices.

- Reubenkincade

This isn't true of the NFL, on average every team plays with 3-4 rookies undrafted or drafted in their lineups on Defense, offense and special teams. For example, the Steelers fielded 3 on defense, on e on offense and 2 on special teams. This year will be at least 2 on d and 2 on offense. Totally different league though, injuries are much more common and rookies are 21-23 years old usually right out of the draft.

La
Ariz move to Portland

Montreal
Wash
NYR
NYI
BOS
QUE

PHI

Tor
Ott

Chi
Minn
WPG
St. L

Fla
TB
Dal
Vegas
Car

Florida in the western conference? Minnisoda and WPG in the east? I'm a bit confused by this setup, but love the pacific division. How big is Portland? is them being a hockey market real?

Looks like Joffery Baratheon, then again so does William Nylander. Could be our Nylander, I know how much you guys like a Swede who dangles and avoids body contact.

Edit: the more I watch tape, hard not to like the kid. Doesn't defend well, but some great offensive zone instincts.

I think if they move Galchenyuk, it will be for a center. Maybe for Duchene could be an interesting swap. Galchenyuk and Mackinnon on the powerplay would be scary.

Isn't Galch a center playing LW?

I would, Galchenyuk is a project, but he's pretty much the same age as granlund and could be a 1c, well worth the price of those two. Its what we would have to add that concerns me; Galchenyuk's stock has dropped, but I doubt it has fallen that low... they still wouldn't have a better option for 1c

We are better defensively with Tanev over Guddy. But at the same time our biggest issue last year was offense, not defense. Our offense wasn't good enough and scoring as well as keeping the puck in the oppositions zone. That is a big reason why so many games were 40+ shots. We lost possession in the offensive zone too much. Unless any trades change things, next year I see our line-up being(with a preference):

D.Sedin-Bo-Boeser
Baerschi-Hank-Granlund
LE-Sutter-Goldy
Cramerosa-Gaunce-Dorsett

Edler-Stetcher
Hutton-Tanev
Pedan-Guddy
Sbisa

We will likely lose either Sbisa or Gaunce to LV. I could see them taking Sbisa TBH. This split the twins and lets Daniel focus on passing over shooting, will also make both twins more productive as they will be put with faster skaters that backcheck as they are realistically too slow to backcheck effectively anymore.

Theyve never liked him at center in Montreal, that's what they're looking for is 1c from what I've read. But yes, he is a center and has played both.

DISAGREE

Nothing wrong with the Sedins defence, it's the offence that has dried up.

That's what 90% of hockey nick names are like. Chuky, guddy, Tavy, Stamy, Kopi, Kovi... I mean poop, I'm not a fan but this is just hockey culture type of name.

Allowing kids ready to jump to AHL but not NHL go earlier would be a start to fixing the talent pool. A lot of kids get ruined because they are not ready for the NHL, but the team doesn't want them sent to juniors.
- Retinalz

I don't have a problem with the current system for the most part. People the last few years have started accepting and parroting the fallacy that " player A is too good for Juniors" when they are usually just average for a drafted player.

I really think people here and elsewhere underestimate how much of a challenge it is to go from playing in juniors to playing against pro's in the AHL. The same holds true for how rare it is for teens to be ready for the NHL. The natural progression of Juniors for 3 years usually (4th often corresponds with overage year) and 2 years of Minors is fine.

I would support waiting until players are 19 before drafting though.
