So we have a deal. Im principle the major pieces are

Nylander, Peterson, and Bogo for Barrie and Butcher

- DDM-Coga

I would do that

I think everybody would, which might be the problem with it actually happening.

maybe actually, but they already had kopitar, doughty, voynov, and the non sucking version of brown. Keep in mind, they had to move schenn and johnson, two top ten picks, to make the carter and richards moves.

So it's ok for LA to trade 2 players who were top10 picks for needed forwards...
but we shouldn't trade 1 top10 pick & then 1 mid round(likely imo) 1st for 2 defensemen that we desperately need?

Would these defensemen be any less a part of our success than Hossa & Anisimov or Sharp before him?
Hell... Chicago had SEVEN 1st round picks in a row that contributed basically nothing to their championships

If Nashville wins, they'll have traded for Johansen & Neal
Pitt for Kessel, Hagelin, Bonino, Schultz, etc

Every team good does this

The issue is trade for a couple B+ defensemen now...
or wait & see if a couple picks turn into stars in 3-5 years?

The gamble & wait are completely unnecessary
Fixing the defense will improve this team drastically!!!

yes this is the main issue, we havent completed the core, trading for B+ pieces now makes no sense. if you can land a core piece yea im all for it i just dont see it right now. If there's someone out there that they think can turn into a core piece that would be okay as well.

In the LA example, they drafted and developed schenn/johnson to round out their core. once it was complete they realized those two wouldnt be enough to take them to the next level so they move them for 2 core players, not B+ guys but in either scenario their core was complete.

Teams are more likely to trade those guys for nhl talent then a first rounder. But if a team was open to moving a core player for our pick then yea of course id be for it.

Just wanna get this straight...

You are advocating NOT upgrading the defense,
Using these next two 1st round picks...
and HOPING they develop into "difference makers"

In THREE to FIVE years?

No offense...
but f#ck that sh!t

you are mostly correct. Im not saying dont upgrade the defence at all. In the capfriendly line up i posted i had us signing brendan smith. Im saying id rather find game changers via the draft and develop them over the next few years than make big moves for B+ players. I personally don't believe that this core is complete. Maybe im wrong who knows

U might be correct...

But we have a tone of young talent still developing

And it's the waiting 3-5 years to see if future drafts picks actually become difference makers
Most likely, they'll be B+ players we can have now
And there's about as much a chance they bust as there is they turn into Like Schenn as it is they turn into Karlsson, etc

I know the guys we pick could range anywhere from A+ to Z-, but im willing to take that risk vs adding C to B+ players. (potentially on bad contracts).

If i felt our core was complete i would probably share your thinking. I think thats the difference imo.

theyd have to take a contract back imo

also doesnt he have a ntc/nmc?

- Sabresfan-365

I would be very worried about that kind of move one year after they sign a guy to a big UFA contract. Now all of a sudden they want to trade him? Why?

Barrie could be moved, that Im sure of.

Duchene from what it sounds like it pretty close to heading to the Islanders for 15th overall, De Haan and Beauvillier (according to some Avs beat writers on witter from what they have heard)

Barrie I think goes to get either a different style Dman and another smaller asset or for forward of equal value.

For Fitz, this literally showed up on my FB today

http://deadspin.com/who-w...-every-year-du-1770857828

Has nothing to do with our argument but it's been known that he was over rated during his career

Anyone (Not you) ranking him over Lebron is nuts

I really think it was "The Decision" that did it. What else could it be? It's not racism. It's not like he's Jackie Robinson, so much better than everyone else, but nobody admits it. So it's gotta be "he's arrogant, so he can't possibly be better than _______" which is patently ridiculous.

And I hate the NBA. But anyone saying Lebron isn't at least the 3rd best player of all time is just kidding themselves.
