Yes I agree! But just not at any cost of course! O'Reilly is fine,Kanes talent was never a question mark, but character was! And bringing any players at any stage of their careers be it prospects or especially veteran free agent/trade players when rebuilding you must insure your core of younger players are insulated from certain attitudes and hopefully any off ice distractions, I personally never liked the trade! It never did anything for the organization in its growth or leadership department! But that's just me

ok...kane's no choir-boy...that much has been established, and it may not have been the greatest of moves in the leadership department, but you can't deny what he does inside the rink...after Kane's 30-goal season and watching him deck cooke, who didn't want a player like that on their team?...that's what he has in him

cant use them to move up? sure longer odds, but still a shot. more picks, more likely you are to find a gem.

murray tried to use three second rounder to move up in '13 but got no takers

14** and as Fitz points out every week, they had a real opportunity there even if they didnt move up.

I trust the guys who watch it with some sort of regularity more than the "draft sites" who come up with generic stereotypical scouting reports for players
- Sabresfan-365

"some sort of regularity" is, what, 2-3 games?

look, I get it and unless you or I are scouts who can watch multiple games and have the opportunity to get to know everything about the player, all we have is second, third or fourth hand knowledge

we could have used the two seconds for ourselves or in another trade

we could have moved armia, lemieux and the first for a different player that didnt require us taking bogosian back

- Sabresfan-365

Hindsight! it just seems to me that he jumped the gun on the rebuilding of this team! It is what it is now! But giving up picks and prospects? To get a questionable character player and one who never reached his draft potential? Again hindsight!

5-foot-9 and a weight of 179 pounds kinda smallish like Antipin
- 22sabresQ

His height and weight have been listed differently on some draft boards ? Some have him taller by an inch and 6lbs heavier

ok...but for what in return?

my point all along is that premier players don't come along very often...sabres had the assets to get the job done

- Michael Pachla

Ya I know what you saying and the leafs did it with Kessel! all though not going through a rebuild, they thought he was the/a missing peices

if i had to guess, i would say they will take 4-5 "bad" contracts, probably netting 4-7 picks- 3 seconds, 2 thirds, and 2 later. hopefully we can be one of the teams. they can easily get to 43 million without taking any cap dumps, so they have leverage.

Cooke again I just don't see the results of that trade in the timing! Those two are peices that a contender would like to add,but in saying that who knows what will transpire (trade/performance )then all said and done? Anyway have a great weekend mike and gang! .p.s. thanks guys you've always been welcoming here! Much appreciated!

My picks at would be:

Heiskanen(wont be there)
Tippett
Makar
Tolvanen

If we have the ability to trade up a spot or two at a relatively low price to get Heiskanen I would do it.

Yes, its not that TM made the moves that gets, it who he got back. He moved staff, myers, Lemieux, comper, grigo, Zadorov a first and second round pick, what he got back of value Oreiley and maybe Kane (depending on who you talk to) that's it. I was all for speeding up the rebuild but that's a huge swing and a miss. I like ROR and Kane, but if your moving all your pieces you better get something a little more substantial. Not to mention the guy he took in Bogo for some reason.
And Kane could be gone for a 2nd rounder or late first?
That would mean we dealt Myers, Stafford, Lemieux and a first rounder for franking bogosian and kasdorff and a pick . That's not acceptable IMO.

I'd pick Cale Makar over Tim Liljegren and maybe Valimaki over Liljegren too.

I mean, if you're not going to include Bogo in what was returned to us, you might as well not include grigo and stafford to the other teams.

eeli tolvanen might be a bit of a reach there. if they want to go forward pettersson would make a little more sense. you could trade down and land tolvanen though.

IMO, RoR was worth everything that GMTM gave up.

IM other O, if you're not from Buffalo or the nearby area, you're not a true fan.
