When was last time Nash played 80 games? You're missing point. My original post was us getting Julius Honka. It's not that I want one of those goalies. I'm looking at it as more Dallas might want Nash, and we'd get a good prospect for taking back one of their goalies, preferably, the cheaper one - junaka3
honestly, if you ranked the entire league in order as to their level of interest in Rick Nash, I believe Dallas could very well fall last on that list.

The buyout window coming up shortly.
Time to pull the trigger on Staal? Gonna cost 'too much' for sure, but...

only the first buyout window though, as long as one player files for arbitration, they get a second buyout window in August
they could very well see how their summer is going, they can go 10% over the cap during the summer, and then ultimately decide to do a buyout in August too

forgot that
but if you would have to decide today - Staal or try another year?
imo G is out of the discussion for now...
if it was me making the decision, I'd bite the bullet and buy out Staal now, but I have serious doubts the organization would do it
then Girardi goes to a 15 team NTC on July 1st and I spend the summer trying to pull that off somehow - jimbo83
Would probably cost the Rangers a good young player to get someone to take that contract. Something like maybe Girardi and Lindberg for a mid-round pick.
CHI had to include Teravainen with Bickell to get that contract off the books.

I'm of the opinion keep Girardi as the 3rd pairing if we could get rid of Staal somehow.
I don't think they'll get rid of Staal either, unless they buy him out. $5.7M AAV over another 4 seasons for what he brings is nearly unmovable, unless they are including Skjei which I think we all know isn't happening.

Staal got a full NMC as well, so no doubt the only options are that he's getting bought out or he retires.

Well thats the hope.
If the Rangers used a 1st and say a prospect to be able to get someone to take Staal, I would probably be down with it instead of a buyout. Hate having the dead space. At least then they could use the money for something else.
Another thing with the Staal buyout, I thing management would have to feel comfortable with either Day or Graves being able to play in the NHL.

I am of a different mindset on this one. I don't want the Rangers to trade their 1st rounder, even if it means getting rid of Staal. To the contrary, I would like them to try to move up, and draft a guy like Erik Brannstrom, and I don't give a hoot that he's a left shot.
Eventually, the Rangers are going to have to start trying to draft impact players in the first round again.

If they could move up, I'm cool with that, but if the 1st stays where it is, I would use it to jettison Staal.

if the Rangers keep their first rounder and use it on another left handed defenseman I am going to take a giant poop on my desk

Just my two-cents as a dirty Islander fan -- The Rangers should keep that pick. Their prospect pool is putrid and they should be adding all the talent they can to that group. Lundqvist is now into the back-9 of his career and if they have any shot at remaining competitive after his game falls off/he retires then they'll have to start building now, because (especially in this draft) whoever they take is going to be 2-4 years away from the NHL.

How many years have we been hearing that though? Call me naive but I could honestly give 2 (frank)s. The Rangers are always there in the playoffs despite that they are "on their way down", "window is closed", "have no talent in the farm system".. blah blah (frank)ing blah.
