Trading Raanta is not my preference, but losing him for nothing shouldn't be an option. I'm sure Dallas would love a top 6 forward and get rid of one of their goalies.. for us we'd be getting a backup for next season and Dallas would have to either add Honka or some picks. Yeah, we'd have 2 expensive goalies, but we'd be getting rid of Nash contract. Shesterkin should be here after next season.

Both Jan, and I made you aware yesterday that Niemi carries a $4.5M salary cap for 1 more season. NHL fans, including Rangers fans question Sather as to how much he paid Hank alone. You really want $13M of the latest current $73M NHL salary cap tied up here at the goalie position, just to trade away an offensive/defensive forward's $7.8M cap hit in Nash??? There will be much cheaper priced back up goalie options than Niemi, whose game has depleted the past few seasons, despite Dallas's porous defense, and that would not cost you giving up Nash. A Nash trade can be utilized better for help elsewhere here.
Furthermore, Dallas needs that help on defense prior to at forward, and would never add any additional asset(s) to pick up Nash's full contract if they even would have needed him. In addition, Shesterkin signed a 3 year deal to play goal in Russia this past season. So he will not be here for another 2 more years at the least.
An important testimony is about to begin right now to help shorten the term of the biggest tweeter in the U.S.A.

this couldn't be a dumber conversation

the last thing Dallas needs is Rick Nash, the last thing the Rangers need is one of those Dallas goalies

yeah, well, they acquired him July 18th last year and I am sure it was a whirlwind for him making the move, even though he started out terrific and it was the injury that derailed his season more than anything else

he was the Rangers best player in the playoffs and a whole summer getting ready for next season, as long as they get his next contract worked out

I predict big things for Zib next season

- jimbo83

So, you're saying that Zib will give the league a pecker slapping??

I'll take it one further and say that an inordinate percentage of NY's goals next year will involve Zib & Brad Chase.

If you include Mr. Kader and Mr. Zerella, I'm all for it

Zerella doesn't need any guarantees! He's a beast 100% of the time. It's all the Lembas bread!

you people are crazy if you think the Devils will trade Kovy the NYR for anything you would be willing to give away. So Skjie and a 1st rounder would be maybe your only bet. Plus you need to move people to just sign your own players as is.

Skjei or no deal with Rangers. On no planet does it make sense to help the Rangers unless they are severely overpaying. Skjei and more.
- SnipeDevil6

Well we know most Devils don't belong on this planet so I get where you're coming from

We all know his name is Fratello not Zerella, just ask Sam Rosen.

You're willing to give a 34 year old who we don't need, doesn't fill a void $5 million but not going to give $6.5-7 million to a 28 year old that fills a big void?
- KreiderBomb

I would rather give $4.5 to 5M to Smith on a 4 or 5 year deal. The PP needs to be revamped completely. A 7M d-man is not going to improve the current system.

But he's a top pair defenseman not a 7th, we need Shatty and Smith in the fold

If the Rangers can get both Smith and Shatty, then I am all for it. Smith would be my priority as we need that physical D-man with mobility.

Are you ok with that?

I would take him. But, I don't see a scenario where we don't absolutely hate his contract long before it's up. I know this is not exactly news around here, but apparently this is what we do.
To me, the TOP of my wish list is to offer what it takes to have LV draft Holden (Staal would be preferable, but the price would be exponentially higher) and re-sign Smith. If we can have one of the D prospects step up (or a rebound from Klein) and reduce the minutes to Staal and G, we have a D corp that is at least middle of the pack.

How'd that work out for Washington?
Is he the answer to ALL our issues? I don't believe so.

Nope, but does he make the back end better for at least the next 3-4 years?

Trade Raanta for an extra 1st
Trade Hayes for Dumba
Ask Staal to waive his NMC and deal him to Dallas for Lehtonen
Ask Nash to waive his NMC and trade him to either Arizona or Carolina for one of there 1st and 2nd round picks, while eating half his cap
Buyout Girardi

Will enable us to protect Lindberg and Fast
Will probably loose Pirri to expansion over Grabner

After expansion draft:
Sign Smith
Resign all RFA's
Trade Holden and Klein for pick(s)

Sign Jumbo Joe Thorton for 1 year deal

Win the freakin Cup

I'd rather have Hellberg here than Lehtonen.

And I want Girardi on our blueline until he's ready to be an assistant coach in Hartford!! Just playing fewer minutes.
