Kovy for Stepan. That's the only ranger deal I'd rake. I always loved stepan and would be great with Devils. Kovy can ride out his yrs on rangers for all I care. Devils won't compete for cup anytime soon so a goal here and there from Kovy against NJ won't matter.

Trading Raanta is not my preference, but losing him for nothing shouldn't be an option. I'm sure Dallas would love a top 6 forward and get rid of one of their goalies.. for us we'd be getting a backup for next season and Dallas would have to either add Honka or some picks. Yeah, we'd have 2 expensive goalies, but we'd be getting rid of Nash contract. Shesterkin should be here after next season. - junaka3
this is yet another thing that's probably not happening
Jan, let's not forget we have Bereglazov from KHL and a couple other undrafted college kids we signed. Besides Shesterkin we have Huska, who is widely consider one of the best college goalies this past season. There's plenty of prospects to get a deal done and I don't think the Devils will have much power over this. If Kovulchuk has a short list, and Rangers aren't desperate to get him, return should be reasonable. Personally, I'd love to add him but overhauling defense should be our first priority. - junaka3
Pionk and Pedrie. Huska was great in college but he is several years away. I believe Shestyorking has two more years in the KHL, as he had signed a three year extension there. The Rangers do have prospects but none of the ones we have discussed are givens, so need to be cautious when dealing. Plus to me, if Kovy wants the $ rumored, that may be the biggest hurdle.
guys, whoever the Rangers backup goalie is next year, whether it's Raanta or they scramble to find someone else, its going to be a guy making about 1 million
they don't have any way to even pay half of what one of those horrid Dallas goalies make. If Dallas were to buy one of those guys out, maybe that guy would be an option to replace Raanta, at a small cap hit.
going Backwards with a move bringing Kovalchuk in..34 ???
thats old schoolNYR's ..just in it to drive up the price
what a waste of commentary on a loser like him....
I say stick to the plan, put some hayes and nash out there, see who bites then reel in a young defensemen. We need to fix the defense that's priority #1! We have offense. If they want to sign Kovy to a 3 year deal, he will be 37/38 entering retirement. NO THANKS... Lets save our draft picks, we need em

No freaking way. Stepan has lots of years left as a 2nd,3rd and eventually 4th line center. Kov has 3-4? Lets invest the correct way

Gorton is in charge, not Sather, and nothing proves more that the Rangers line of thinking is younger than the Brassard for Zibinajed trade last summer

yeah, well, they acquired him July 18th last year and I am sure it was a whirlwind for him making the move, even though he started out terrific and it was the injury that derailed his season more than anything else
he was the Rangers best player in the playoffs and a whole summer getting ready for next season, as long as they get his next contract worked out

I take that as a guarantee
...I'm saying this cause he was 'known' to be a bit out of shape at Ottawas camp every year.

He'll likely follow the stepan path and just muddle around the 50 point mark his entire career.
