Looking at the central scouting rankings there really isn't many D that would be better then a forward.

Canucksarmy rankings
#27 CALLAN FOOTE
#29 HENRI JOKIHARJU
#31 URHO VAAKANAINEN
#39 CONOR TIMMINS
#50 JOSH BROOK
#51 ROBIN SALO
#54 ATRYOM MINULIN
#55 PIERRE-OLIVIER JOSEPH
#60 MAX GILDON

Unless one of those first 3 falls to 33.

- manvanfan

Avs would likely go F with 32 if they go D with 4. Nashville is likely to go F and Pitts is hard to gauge. They are more likely to go F in the 1st, but Vaak could be hard for them to pass up.

EDIT: i also really like CONOR TIMMINS

I have all 3 of those first D taken in my first round. I think Timmins is good but at 33 that's reaching. Better forwards would be available.

Oilers and agent for a pending UFA d-man Kris Russell briefly spoke yesterday to get long term extension going.

Wow, Chiarelli what the hell are you thinking.

This is good. That means they will not be improving their defense at all. Just relying on current ones getting better.

I know corsi thins he sucks, but he's a decent bottom pairing dman imo

I wouldn't give him a long term deal though, he's the type of dman who can decline rapidly once his body starts to break down(Dan Girardi, Josh Gorges, etc.)

If i was his agent i'd be trying to split the difference and go for a 4 year deal.

Probably settle on 3 years/12m.

If I was his agent I would be telling him 4x4 UFAs are expensive

It's not just possession

Its turnovers, shot suppression being one of the worst in the NHL
Like everything combined into one

You are essentially paying him to block shots, because that is literally the only thing he does well.

Canucks Now‏
@CanucksNow
Per @DhaliwalSports, Trevor Linden and the Sedins met with draft-eligible C Elias Pettersson on Monday. Cody Glass will be in VAN this week.

This bugs me a lot. Who is running this team? Are the Sedins not done after this year? Why is Trevor doing the interview and not Jim ? This team is so ass backwards.

Timmins will be gone top 25.

Its a rebuild this is going to take several years. We have lots of holes and one draft class isnt turning this garbage team around. We just added 2 wingers at the deadline and will come away with a center at 5.

Unless all there is much better fowards we need to go defense as they take longer to get in to there prime..

What could change that is dealing gud, tanev or edler prior to expansion and then using hutton to take on a player who needs protection but is more of a sure top 4 type at still in their early 20s.

You could come to the conclusion that maybe Elias Pettersson english is about as good as TL's Swedish. The Sedin's would make good translators.

Jim is probably real busy with the upcoming expansion draft.

So you are saying you need two Sedins to translate? Why am I surprised , you need two of them to do anything and everything.

Watch the Sedins get moved right into the front office as soon as they retire. Linden has to go

Ya I don't understand why the Sedins were there either. They are players for this team, not management and should have no opinion on the team going forwards. Play their final season and then (frank) off.

Usually the player's agent does that type of stuff. The team also employs Thomas Gradin as their main scout in Sweden and I assume he's in Vancouver with the other scouts putting together the draft board. He could have easily have sat it on the meeting and very likely knows Pettersson better than the Sedins do.
