The Kane hate is just laughable.

The reason this debate will last forever is because of these variables

-Top 4 D are worth more than most wingers. (i.e. Larsson for Hall)
-LW is harder to replace than RW
-Kane is very good at 5v5 but not very good on special teams
-This team desperately needs 5v5 talent
-Kane is a fast, aggressive sniper who is there to score goals and drive possession. His strength, speed and ability are very difficult to replace as one player. There are very few players in this league that have his combination of attributes
-Using him as a trade chip might be one of our best opportunities to get a defenseman that will help this team for the long term.
-His contract and demands, coupled with his past off ice issues and alleged locker room issues drive his value down, meaning he's worth more today to the Sabres than to a different team that doesn't know him and hasn't already had him in their lineup

With all of these factors, an agreement will never, ever be made.

We'll know Kane's fate soon enough, and I'm certain Bots has a pulse on the entire situation.

Pretty much all of this.

I think the team (well, Murray) made this decision when he signed Kyle Okposo.

Trade for Travis Sanheim. Use your 1st. or a 2nd and a winger.

So how about this, would you consider this...

Evander Kane

for

Dustin Brown
2017 1st round pick (11th overall)
Jake Muzzin

There are talks that LA is considering giving Vegas 11th overall and Brown, so how about just working it into the deal?

I don't love Brown with 5 more years left, but his $5.875 cap hit is where you wanted Kane's cap hit and getting an additional 1st this year allows us flexability on another younger player (NHL ready in 2-4 years at a low cap hit).

Brown 80 gp 14 goals 22 asssits 36 points
Kane 70 gp 28 goals 15 assists 43 points

I know nothing about him but his nhl drafted position and stats I see online. Is he any good? Not even sure Flyers would trade him (low cap hit and auto protected)

Except for the 5 years he has left, that isn't bad.

Just signed ROR to a massive contract. Not only will he not be traded in the near future, it's bad business. Players and agents lose respect for you when something like that is done.
- TheSabresTaco

disagree

a gm can have a different direction than the gm he replaced

again your missing the point, this team is not ready to compete now, probably won't in the next 2 years

it's a move to consider if the flyers are open to it

I agree I hate the 5 years left, but if we can use a 2nd and or 3rd to get rid of Bogo or Moulson it would be a close wash. Being able to rid yourself of Gorges next year and maybe Ennis would make that look like a great idea. I wonder if we should consider something like that, as Brown would be a great veteran that plays on the penalty kill and blocks shots a lot (show the young guys how to do it). Again, the 5 years of that contract is pretty bad, but scoring an 11th overall pick, I might be able to stomach that.

no he is using it to set his agenda for the moment

years ago he laughed how myers got a norris trophy vote, but it mattered for muzzin

for years 5 on 5 play is the most important thing, yet he dogs kane all the time (racist?)

he always takes the path of stirring the pot instead of bringing information to the table, last night I threw out a handful of names I prefer to muzzin (after saying he is ok) yet no response to this

here is a thought (not directed at you), bring some names to the table that you like

moves that you would make instead of b!tching all the freaking time

I will throw one out there

pick 8 and ROR to the Flyers for pick 2
discuss

Yeah, I know
It's SBroads being SBroads
Hahaha

As far as your trade proposal...
no way

O'Reilly>Hischier/Patrick
Plus, we could get a good player at 8...
1-3 years away from contributing, but still
Or, #8 by itself should be able to get us a pretty good defenseman

Not missing the point at all. But to keep jamming the reset button is spinning tires for a franchise that should arguably be playing in the playoffs this season based on predictions set a few years ago might not be the best management decision.

You want Kane re-signed. I don't.

If Kane already had a deal, there wouldn't be talk of trading him.

I have 0 issue with people liking Kane as a player. He is a solid LW'er.

I have an issue with propping him up to be this elite goal scorer, while seemingly finding an issue with every D man he might be rumored to be dealt for.

We all agree that Top2-4 D men are more valuable than wingers, right? Especially to this team that desperately needs them

- sbroads24

It's not just about getting any top4 defenseman...
we have to get the RIGHT one

Example...
Shattenkirk can't partner with Risto, & the best parts of his game (PP production) aren't what we NEED

I know u disagree on him, but I think u get my point
Not every player is a good fit...
and it's ok for someone to not like Fowler, Muzzin or whoever
Usually it's just that they prefer someone else

you get younger on the dot as this team is not ready to contend with the pieces Murray brought in and by the time they are, ror and okposo will be in their 30's
- homiedclown

I don't think we are that far away

Two top4 defensemen, & this team looks A LOT different
We obviously have plenty of talent up front...
otherwise, we wouldn't have been #1 on the PP
5v5 should improve quite a bit with a couple defensemen that can help get the puck up the ice

There's also the coaching factor. You can't rule out having a better system in place will improve individual and team performance.

Strongly disagree
Murray spent a lot of our tradable assets
You have been very hard on him for some of his trades...
so I'd think you'd agree that any assets we are gonna move now,
had better be for players who work out

Let's just say #8 could get us a number of different guys
Obviously you will like some of the guys better than others

If you get another player (11th overall) that towards the end of that 5 years left on Brown's deal is a low cap hit player to balance out his deal could offset that.

Edit: Imagine getting

Kane

for

Jake Mussin
Juuso Valimaki (D)
Dustin Brown (and his cap hit)

And taking Cale Maker (D) at 8th.

Talk about D problem solved in a couple years for many many years to come!

That's a fair point as well

Not that I'd predict us to win the Cup...
but the 16th seed this year has a really good chance to win it
and Ottawa, who came close to missing the playoffs, were 1 goal away

We had A LOT go wrong for us last year
Definitely not as far away as it seems
Imo anyways

last I checked, Kane was pretty good at scoring goals 5 on 5

that is if 5 on 5 play matters much
