He's only 38.

I like this. Hell I'd be happy with a lot I guess other than briere which was a name I heard. Hexy reaffirming this is not your fathers flyers

I think it shows how much faith he has in Hakstol honestly. You now have two of the most highly held developing coaches around. We have a ton of young talent on the move...

Now the question is, how long before they add a win now coach?

Landeskog blows. Colorado would need to include more. And Duchene is going to cost a fortune to re-sign. They'd need to take AMac. And I'd probably make them take Wiese too. Moving down is something I wouldn't be thrilled about. It would take a huge overpayment for me to pull the trigger. Top 10 pick, blue chip prospect and a top six forward with them taking back whatever money that is needed to make it work. It's just not likely anyone offers as much.

What!? You take that deal any day of the week. There's no way the Aves do it.

Initially I thought yes. Now I say no. If you take the Colorado deal you are worsening your chances at a legit #1 center. There's nothing else that really matters for this organization

from EK:

Montreal talks to Philly about #2. (e4)

I don't know any names involved here, and I fully feel it would have to be a very enticing deal and would include this year's #1, Galchenyuk+. That's just speculation though...no source yet on that one...

With Connor Hart knocking on the door in the roaring twenties. What a joke can't even get his name right.

Flyers just hired Kris Knoblauch as assistant coach.
- arichardson22

Like it. Young coach out of Juniors, teams have finished 1 or 2 in PP for a few years in a row and have, overall, been pretty successful. Good to see them reaching out beyond the organization and/or the usual NHL retreads in making this hire.

an e4 eh?

I'm sure lots of teams are TALKING to Hexy bout the pick. Highly doubt he trades it though

Just because there isnt a McDavid in the draft doesn't mean the Flyers shouldn't take one of the top 2 in the draft. The 2nd overall pick in the draft will never be used to dump a contract. That idea is one of the worst asset management decisions you could possibly make
- YuenglingJagr

I think you missed the part where Duchene is included in the trade. If you can move down 2 spots, get a #2 C who borders on a #1 and dump off $5M in cap space for the next 4 years I think that is good asset management.

I'll be extremely disappointed if they trade the pick.

I'd want a guaranteed top 6 forward who is 23 or younger, a top 5 pick this year, another 1st with no lottery protection for next year, and probably another blue chip prospect.

It's just not realistic.

For example

To PHI: Galchenyuk, Sergachev, 2 1sts

To MTL: 2nd Overall, Morin

Montreal would be insane to even consider that, I know.

I like it too.

I also think Hextalls quotes "the youth will be here sooner then later" seems to fit this.

I'll be interested in moves this offseason if they can move some vets out (Read, Weise, MacDonald) and just let the youth step in.

Agree.

It would have to be a total win for Hextall to move it. And I honestly think if they get Patrick it could be the guy who you can eventually slide into Giroux's role and maybe you move Giroux and that contract in a couple years.

I guess it depends what route the Flyers want to go.

If they could make a deal like #2 & AMac for #4 and Duchene I think they would be crazy not to do it. Ditch a bad contract, get a very good 2C and still get a great prospect. Hell, even if it is Landeskog coming back I'd do it.

Hischer and Patrick are not on the level of McDavid, Eichel, Matthews, Laine, etc. Good prospects but I don't know that there is a great separation between them and the guys ranked 3-6.

Duchene is overrated and will command too much money and term on his next deal. The idea is to draft and develop not blow our collective load early because we got a little lucky.

I like this:

“He’s one of the best coaches out there,” TSN’s Craig Button said of Knoblauch, per the Edmonton Journal. “Whoever gets him is going to be very lucky.

“He can flat-out coach. He’s adaptable, he knows how to make adjustments as the game’s going on. He’s a great developer and bench coach.”

I think you're drastically overvaluing the need to dump the 5M. Also not considering that Duchene is 26 versus drafting a 19 year old prospect with #1 center potential.
