Same, though I'd also be open to DeHaan is light of Sekera's injury. If we could acquire him along with Petrovic or Pysyk from Vegas, then we could avoid signing Russell for the type of term that'll hurt the team long term.

Well obviously Blackstrom2 doesn't run the Capitals, and im not saying that Washington would want to trade Burakovsky, but they are going to have to do something to resign all the guys they want and fill in the rest of their roster with role players. Im sure they would rather trade someone else, but who else is going to give them a 1st round pick? They are going to run out of cap space and be a worse team than they were last year.

Don't think he is their top priority to sign right now either and if they don't get a deal done by July 1st Kovsky could sign an offer sheet (i know they are rare but can still happen) for 3-3.9 mil and that would really put the caps in a crunch. And they would only end up with a 2nd round pick for that compensation.

If we manage to sign McDavid for max term, aka 9 more years, I think the priority should be to draft in a way that continually provides cheaper options for McDavid to play with.

Maybe because I watched 5 cups being won already in my life. Maybe its because the last ten years have been beyond miserable. But...

I would prefer to have a legit strong playoff team for the next 9 years minimum than build a team that has a slightly improved chance to win a cup over the next 3 years.

Winning a cup is extremely difficult and even with McDavid there are no guarantees the Oilers will get another one during his time here.

Also with how shiny our new building is + McDavid + winning, hopefully FA come our way like they have Chicago.

I would go hard after Andre Burakovsky in Washington. Good player on the rise. Is a RFA that Washington will have trouble resigning and fitting in, they are definitely going to lose a few pieces in the off season. He has size, speed and offensive ability. He also played a year of junior with McDavid which is always a nice foot in the door.
I think a trade of the 22nd pick for Burakovsky would be a good starter, Edmonton might have to throw in a prospect or bottom 6 player. I believe he could be signed to a pretty nice bridge deal for 3-4 years (2.5mil?) and give us that time to see what we can become.

defenceman Andrej Sekera had a fine season, his 35 points the second-best total of his career, but his knee was wrecked in the playoffs on a hit by Ducks centre Ryan Getzlaf, and he’s expected to be out for 6-9 months, so his absence should carry well into next season. The upside is that, if the Oilers add a body on the blueline to help offset the loss of Sekera, then they will (theoretically) be all the better on the defence when Sekera is finally ready to return.

While Adam Larsson reaped the rewards of Edmonton’s improvement, getting lots of credit for team improvement that probably belonged elsewhere. He was fine, and played more than 20 minutes per game for the third straight season, but there isn’t a lot of data to suggest that he’s an impact player on the blueline. Certainly not when compared with Sekera, for example.

OMG, you're quoting Scott Cullen now? You're really getting desperate.

Enjoy the Oilers success and cheer for Chia to win the GM of the year award.
