Nice! Good for him. THN thinks he'll produce even better next year with a new Coach. Sounds like there was some drama in Spokane this year.

He loves this game... Scored a hatty in his first game in the W as a 15 year old against Tr-City. I have my fingers crossed for him...

DID YOU WATCH THE 4TH GAME? I'm sorry but that's ALL mental. He poop the bed when it mattered most. When he was the "starter" he shat the bed too at the beginning of the year. He plays well as the underdog, not so well otherwise.
- The-O-G

If that's your criteria for being mentally weak, there are a whole lot of mentally weak goalies in the NHL. DID YOU WATCH HIM CARRY HIS TEAM TO THE CONFERENCE FINALS TWO YEARS AGO? Was he mentally weak then? You can say the Blues were such a strong defensive team, but he stole a bunch of games, and the blues were outshot 11-14 games. He was mentally strong enough to win two game sevens.

He was the starter for the Blues and wasn't an underdog The entire Flame team was garbage at the beginning of the year and no one was adjusting well to Gulutzan's system. The team rounded into form and so did Elliott.

I get your argument. flames came out sucking at the beginning of the year. Didn't help the goalies at all! But even you Mr Elliott have to admit he let the team down when it counted!

While I agree with your analysis, I don't agree with your conclusion because it is leaving out a crucial factor. All reports on Steve mason are that he is not a locker room guy and guys don't like playing in front of him. On the flip side Smith is considered second in command to Shane Doan and the heart and soul of the team... teammates rave about his work ethic and leadership.

Smith and Masons numbers are similar enough despite playing on vastly different teams.

At the end of the day, if the flames were close to contention over the next 2 years I'd choose Smith in a heartbeat. But considering the Flames are nowhere near, the debate is a little moot because neither Mason or Smith are enough to make Calgary legit. Calgarys window will come and go with little more than several first round exits.

Kind of an idiot aren't you.
Our core consists of a 23, 22,20 21 year old fwds and a 26 and 22 year old D.

All reports... really? Do you have any off these supposed reports available to share? I think you're just pissy because nobody wants to pay u a ton for a 35 completely average goalie.

He did, but so did everyone else. Elliott played well enough that the Flames could have won the first two games and should have won the third. Every goalie goes through rough games in the playoffs, but the successful team starts bail them out.

Nope not true at all. I completely understand why a non contending team like the flames wouldn't ante much up and agree they shouldn't. However if you are a contending team and choosing between mason or smith, it'd be wise to spend a little extra. Considering there isn't a trade partner like that out there right now I doubt we trade him and that's fine with me.

I'd stick to world of Warcraft bud; I don't think you were able to logically process what I said, because I didn't reference the age of your core whatsoever. Rather, I am pointing out that your core isn't good enough to ever be a contender. Too many other good young teams with higher caliber talent.

Well "bud" I'll leave the gaming to you. It seems more your thing. BUt if you listen up most hockey people say the flames are really close to being a real contender. But what would you know having cheered for a desert team for lord knows how long. And sure keep your hero Smith. It'll keep you in the basement for a good while.

Let me spell it out for ya. I brought up the cores age because they are all so Young and have many years ahead to become contenders.

A playoff contender? Sure. But not a cup contender. Oilers/Leafs/Sabres/Jets, and yes even the lowly coyotes are regarded as having better cores/prospects. Specifically though, both the coyotes and the flames are doomed for the next decade, being caught in the mcdavid era. And now you're just good enough that you'll never significantly improve your team through the draft. So yes, congrats, you don't suck. But you also lack what all of the recent Stanley cup winners possess. Sorry...that's just reality

Yet a few days later Todd posts an article about how the Flames acquired Smith. Ironic, isn't it?
