I'm bored...so here's a crazy trade proposal. I know if would never happen, but in the interest of passing time until there is some real Blackhawks news. This is just for fun and assuming the players would accept the trade.

To Chicago:

Tavares - re-sign for $8 - $8.5 million
15th overall pick in 2017

To New York Islanders:

Toews
26th overall pick in 2017
Hinostroza

- DarthKane

It's only crazy because it would never happen for a ton of reasons....... but I actually posted a trade here mid-season when the NYIslanders were in the toilet, of Toews and Keith for Tavares and Leddy. Lots of angst in return to say the least.
Now I'd really do it in a heartbeat !! I can only hope that the insights of something major in the way of a shakeup isn't just a bunch of bull. It is needed.

My profile on DraftSite doesn't include the fact I am really not sure if he ever can play the high pace game the nhl has morphed intbut at junior level he is very cool, collected and smart with every decision, pass, and displays a high IQ at the level.
I know I commented about his feet; I didn'y becessarily mean his skating, or balance, it is just that he starts to run around a bit under pressure, when he doesn't have the biscuit.
All that said, I am not sure if he projects even to a number #4 in the NHL, but will be happy to be incorrect.

Hey Wiz, I always enjoy reading your site come draft time. I was curious as to any opinions you had on Callan Foote that aren't included in your profile of him. As a big fan of his dad, I am already kind of bias, but what would you think if the Hawks traded up to get him?

Why in gods name does everybody or a lot of people on this board want to trade Toews. He played hurt most of this year and the year before that Q used everybody and anybody on his line. They haven't found a replacement for Saad yet.The Hawks have to go get a lw with speed this off season and hopefully with a bit of grit.Toews can not continue to get abused like he has been. Why doesn't Bowman go get true 4th liners who gives the team energy and kills penalty's so the likes of Toews and Hossa doesn't have to anymore .The Hawks or should I say Q needs to manage his players better.Another thing, why did Keith play as much as he did last year when we had 6 decent defenseman ?

In a real hockey sense I have no desire to trade Toews. I was just having fun with trade proposals.

Somewhere in this thread you posted a trade with Washington about OV. Although I'm one who thinks he wouldn't be a fit with the Hawks I liked the outside the box multiple step moves that you proposed.

I don't really expect much more than the Hawks looking to become cap compliant and adding a Euro Dman but a move like you proposed is exactly what I think the Hawks need in a cap world where the cap stays flat. ..........And IMO nobody, nobody is exempt if the right group of players, prospects, picks and cap relief all comes back in a deal. Nobody is untouchable in a flat (earth) cap world.

And I'd add Toews is the most perfect add for Winnipeg. Something is seriously wrong when a team so loaded at every position under achieves as much and often as they have. Toews is the kind of guy that can change that culture in a very short time.

Chicago would seem like a good fit for Petersen. Wherever he lands he won't find an NHL starter job and unlikely he'll be a back-up next season.

1 - 1.5 years in the AHL then 1 - 1.5 years as a back-up in Chicago then Crawford's contract is up and he'd have a shot at the #1 role. That's assuming everything goes perfectly for Petersen, which rarely happens.

- DarthKane

He'd very likely be the immediate top goalie prospect...and perhaps require less seasoning. Would love to snag him

Best time to read scouting reports. Have seen Bowers live a few times and have seen him as a possibility for the Hawks at 26 this year. Never thought of Toews when I watched him or see a comparison made but this writer does: http://lastwordonhockeypr...report-2017-nhl-draft-28/
- Mr Ricochet

I've seen him compared to Bo Horvat. Don't know if that's accurate or not but I'll take him if that's true.

pen goaltending this playoff has been outstanding...

they have been outstated and outplayed numerous times this playoff but fluery/murray combo has bailed them out repeatedly...

Digging on a rumor involving a core Hawk. Bit of a surprise if true, but not a huge one. Need to get secondary corroboration, would be kind of a big deal. Stay tuned.

LOL it is THERE!

I just went back and rewrote this one because you said it wasn't there, or maybe you meant me posting it here.

So, presenting...my second Adam Foote profile:

Adam Foote
Son of former lunch pail NHL defenseman Adam, his progeny is a huge, lanky specimen with a nice low point shot, good over-all game recognition, and a frame that suggests he will be able to handle the physical rigors of NHL crease clearing. Plays is all situations, and has a good enough stick to win puck battles, take away time and space for attackers, and funnel them to the outside. The Kelowna factory for developing defenders had done a good job at developing him and his 200 foot game. There has been much talk about the concerns of him having “heavy feet”, but he is actually light on his edges, and nimble in his movements in all phases. Can he improve his overall up ice push on his pins? Sure. He didn’t score any even strength goals but he still manages to put pucks on net for rebounds. His offense game really hasn’t been a major plus, and this is definitely an area he can continue developing in. Doesn’t display the edge we have seen in his father, but he uses his size to his advantage. Right now, there is a strong offensive instincts in his movements in the middle zone and on the attack. He moves in a methodic fashion that renders him more time and an extra step in the mid zone. Solid puck mover on the PP, who probably projects as a second PP guy, and second pairing defender if he continues to grow into his frame and get at ease with his body. And he has room to carry more weight.

Puck Management. One way or another the Hawks should be aiming to get better at gaining and maintaining possession. I will add that the NHL sometimes seems a bit loose with how it credits takeaways and giveaways, but the Hawk were one of the very best teams for takeaways from 2010 to 2014. They were pretty decent too in terms of not giving up the puck. Since then, things have been getting a lot more sloppy. This year they were 18th best in giveaways and 10th in terms of takeaways. They were the 2nd best NHL team in takeaways from 2010 - 2014 and 13th in giveaways. The Hawks were a run and gun team and they were great at getting the puck back. Sharp, Bolland, Frolik, Saad all helped in that dept. Schmaltz was actually a bright spot in that dept, being credited with nearly as many takeaways as Hossa and Kane (more than Toews).

I think the team needs to work on exiting their zone cleaner. It was embarrassing against Nashville in the playoffs in terms of the difference between the two teams. Chicago was often throwing the puck under pressure right to center ice to the Preds, while the Preds were often making passes and exiting their zone skating the puck into the middle with possession.

Here are some numbers on the D for fun. Not intended to paint a full picture, but just for sake of taking a look.

Last year - Per game takeaways and giveaways.

Name Tk/G Gv/G RatioT/G
Oduya 0.47 1.13 0.41
Keith 0.40 0.91 0.44
TVR 0.38 0.60 0.63
Hjal 0.32 0.96 0.33
Seab 0.30 1.11 0.27
Rozsi 0.23 0.45 0.50
Campb 0.19 1.00 0.19
Forsling 0.13 0.71 0.19
Kempny 0.12 0.52 0.23

Oduya only played 15 games, but with more games under their belt, Keith, TVR, Hammer and Seabrook were tops in terms of takeaways. Seabrook, Campbell, Hjalmarsson and Keith lead the way with giving the puck away too. Interesting to note (again, the NHL not always the most consistent) but TVR with the best ratio while Campbell, Forsling, Kempny and Seabrook...not so much.

It made me wonder, just how last year compares to the overall career #s for the D. This is the Takeaways and Giveaways per minute of icetime to career ratio (ignoring Kempny and Forsling)

Name Tk/M Gv/M
Oduya 1.76 2.06
Seabrook 1.00 1.61
Campbell 0.68 1.49
Keith 0.76 1.26
Hjalm 0.77 1.16
TVR 1.27 1.15
Rozsival 0.96 0.95

Most Hawks D didn't get credit for nearly as many takeaways and a lot of them gave it away a lot more frequently. I think it shows some of the struggles of the D moving the puck, but also paints a picture that they need more support from the forwards. Not to knock guys like Panarin (for example) but he doesn't replace Sharp or Saad defensively on LW. I'm hoping the Hawks are considering some of this in terms of getting some guys who can forecheck better and apply that back pressure and maybe another D who can skate the puck out of danger.

Interesting that Vegas GM George McPhee was at the Combine this weekend and said that he was going to work the phones this Monday and Tuesday and start announcing deals.

We will see if this Kruger thing has legs.

IMO I think Toews, Kane and Keith are the only true untouchables. It's not likely that Seabrook or Hossa will be dealt. I'd but Panarin, Hjalmarsson and Crawford in the third tier of safety. After that everyone is fair game.

On goalie Cal Peterson. If the Hawks can sign him. It would be like a free late 1st or 2nd round pick. With Wouter Petrers already in the system this would be a real coup.

Hawks might have two solid stoppers down the road. Obviously Cal is a few years ahead of Wouter development wise.

Wiz. Are you of the belief that either Kero or Rasmussen can replace Kruger ?

Also count me as glad if TVR is gone. He was awful in the St Louis first round loss in 2016 and is just way overrated and overplayed by Q
