The Lightning sucked when he was their coach. Good under Boucher the very next year. F Tocchet. I'm not sure about Housley. What if he names McCabe the captain?

Btw, if a team makes a qualifying offer to a player who chooses to go to free agency, the team gets a compensatory pick, either from the team that signs the player or tacked on at the end of a round, similar to NFL RFA's leaving in free agency. Boom, problem solved. Bill Daly, you're welcome.

Boucher was the guy I had hoped for prior to Bylsma .. but he was exiled in Europe at the time.

Dee Ford absent from OTA's for the Chiefs along with Houston, Berry and Peters. Big Red is rattled. Turmoil in KC Bills fans. Come on Chiefs, self destruct this year. Whammmmmy!

Yeah, but "intense" doesn't mean downtuning 2 full steps and screaming like a banshee.

So the Buffalo News writes that Eichel is trying to convince Petersen to sign with the Sabres.

Consider this. By the same token Hawk prospect Dennis Gilbert of Tonawanda is likely telling his Notre Dame teammate Petersen, see you in Rockford in April.

I can tell you that living here in the Midwest, having spent 33 years of my life in Buffalo, kids like Petersen view Chicago as "the big city" . Much like Vesey weighing Boston and New York, a Waterloo, Iowa native like Petersen sees Chicago in that same light.

Mike P. hit on some really salient points with this blog.

Sounds like the Caps are going to listen to offers for Ovechkin

Sabres are one of 4 teams that Ryan Kennedy thinks he could be traded to...

http://www.thehockeynews....echkin-right-now#cxrecs_s

"Another to put in the would-he-go camp is Buffalo. Now, traditionally, that’s no-trade clause central. But the Sabres have two amazing centers in Ryan O’Reilly and Jack Eichel, so Ovechkin would have a great running mate, while being assured that the offense was not his burden alone. In return, Washington would get Evander Kane (still young, always controversial, hopefully the Caps are OK with the latter part), prospect Rasmus Asplund and a second-round pick in 2019, conditional on Kane re-signing with the Caps once his deal is done in 2018."

Kane + Asplund + a 2nd in 2019
I'd do that in a heartbeat

I'm hesitant because of the last couple of trades where we sent a bunch of prospects out the door for an established player. Yes, I realize the difference in magnitude of value between O'Reilly/Kane and that of Ovechkin. But I am worried about what happens to our organizational depth, which looks somewhat bleak now, by depriving that of MORE talent.

We learned that attempting to shorten a proper rebuild has some pretty long term consequences.

Rivet on The Instigators yesterday kept asking, how does Pittsburgh keep finding these late round gems or cast offs from other teams and have them perform at a very high level? He kept stating it was player selection. I don't fully agree with that because a guy like Guentzel would have gone higher if they knew he would make this impact. If you told another team that a player in a draft would come close to if not break the rookie scoring record in the SC playoffs he wouldn't have lasted until the third round. Yes Pitt saw something in him, that's why they drafted him. All teams see something in a player, that's why they draft them, Pitt just develops those whom they draft.

That's the difference. Buffalo needs to begin DEVELOPING players. That's the key to success, we already went the route of acquiring "top flight" players, it didn't work. We need to develop all the other pieces, not emptying our cupboards.

As protective as I feel towards our prospects these days, I couldn't turn that one down. The idea of ovechkin on eichel's wing is tantalizing.

The draft is mostly luck when it gets to round 2,3 etc .

The more picks you have, the more chances you are giving yourself at getting a diamond in the rough
