Bachman is a capable backup imo, if we are going to suck either way why even bother getting another goalie?
This is where I am at right now - Crazybagoham
I feel that Bachman is a great option. That goes hand in hand with not signing Miller. I think you have to be cap-conscious always, despite knowing you are going to suck next year. The more space you have as a terrible team, the better (taking on bad 1 year contracts for assets much like ARI has done *datysuk and Chychrun*, or CAR has done *TT and Bickell*). I see a guy like Condon being an excellent option. Sign him on a trial 1 year contract for 2 mill, tell him to compete for the number 1 job, and see how him and Markstrom pan out. Why pay Miller 4-5 mill a year for 1 year to "Push" Markstrom? |

Bachman playing with Demko in Utica should be a priority. He has done a ton for his development (or so Demko has said). I wouldn't be opposed to using Bachman as a backup though, but him being with Demko certainly makes the most sense. |

if you think goaliending was this teams problem, you didn't watch one game. Miller was fantastic, despite his number/ terrible d men in front of him.
I really don't agree, resign Miller to a 1 year deal, he's a better goalie than Markstrom right now (hopefully after Christmas it will change), the age of whatever goalie we pick up (if any) is irrelevant, as we will probably only use that goalie for 2 season MAX, people seem to forget Demko will probably be going for the starter position in the next few years - Crazybagoham

Bachman is an awful option. He has no business playing in the NHL. He is an average AHL goaltender. Let's aim a little higher Codes. |

I have yet to hear high praise anywhere of Cloutiers job as goalie coach lol |

I honestly would bring in Bernier and let him and Markstrom battle for the starts. Whomever is better keep and the other one goes when Demko ready.
Bernier had a rough playoff but his regular season was not bad and he could only get better |

If we are going into next season with the mentality that we will be a bottom 5 team, I just don't want to tie up valuable cap space in Miller when we could have a better option for cheaper. Teams in the last few seasons have really utilized their cap space to their advantage, sometimes being able to acquire decent players/picks/prospects. I strictly wanting other options because of this. I am also not opposed to giving younger players, or other players opportunities. Look at Dubynyk in Minnesota. No one would have thought that the Wild would betting a decent goalie after EDM had him. I just like the idea of exploring other options (while saving money). |

lol you are too far behind our conversation to jump in now. This dates back to yesterday, or maybe even the day before. It started out with Don saying that PIT D is worse than ours, and me arguing that I feel that is a false statement. We are on the topic of goalies because of the current status of Jim Benning openly saying he wants Miller back, when I think the majority of us (even though a 1 year deal wouldn't be the end of the world) don't want Miller back. I am just stating points that support that. - Codes1087
very true, Pittsburgh might not have some big names on the back end but they really are working hard and using their systems well so I give the edge to Pitt, Murray has been really good too. |

not a huge fan of Condon, but he's solid enough. He seems to do okay with any situation (trades/playing backup etc.) which I like in a player.
If we are going the 1 year route, I like Halak, personally |

do you have a reason for this? Or is it just because he plays in the AHL? I think he's done exactly whats asked of him on nearly every callup |

It is probably a done deal with a stupid amount . It will be announced after expansion draft |

I'm a Miller guy. If we could off-load Marky for another 2nd rounder and some how resign Miller for Marky money I call that good business. |
