I didn't think he was really screened on the Guentzel shot either.

I think he should have seen that.

That was quite savable. Its like the CBC announcers said..Rinne is 6 foot 5 but for some reason made himself 4 feet tall for that shot...

Hi Jimbro!

I hope you enjoy my profile pic. I changed it last year (remember last year when the Pens female dog slapped the Rangers on their way to another cup?) after Queen Hank got so mad he tipped the net over in a complete melt down...remember that? GOOD TIMES!....it brought us luck ever since then...so I've always kept it in Hank's honor. Since you have been kind enough to come here and join us, I thought you might enjoy that little inspirational tale. Cheers!!

Yep. For all the talk that Rinne was a brick wall this playoffs.. He looked pretty average last night. That being said, I expect him to come out stronger in game 2.

I would never argue they didnt get outplayed badly. They did...but in the shotless 2nd period I never felt the Preds were that dangerous...it was a weird thing to watch.

I was in the building. It was the weirdest hockey game I've ever witnessed. The second period was very choppy, no flow. The Pens didn't play well at all, but you are right that Nashville didn't either. It wasn't like some of those games against the Caps where they were giving up chance after chance. Neither team could generate much 5 on 5.

Agreed, it won't match the barnburners that were the Kings/Devils and Kings/Rags SCFs from 2012 and 2014.

Aside from the Malkin goal, which was on a partially screened 5-on-3, I can't fault Rinne for any of the goals. Defensive breakdown after a turnover on the Sheary goal, steers a puck towards the corner only for it to hit Ekholm and bounce in, and a perfect shot from Guentzel using the D as a screen. I doubt Murray would have stopped any of those 3.

Those are goals every goalie lets in. But they are also goals every goalie routinely stops. They weren't weak goals by any means, but a professionallly goalie over a longer sample size should stop those a lot more than he did last night. In a small sample size you can't say he's a bad goalie or just had a bad run.

I think it's time to reunite Sid and the kids. They were ineffective against teams that wanted to muck it up and play physical, but against a team that wants to skate, they should be effective.

Of course, now that Sheary can play again, and Guentz stopped being snake bit...

I think he has them split up to try and get advantageous matchups against the Preds bottom pair. Instead of loading up the top 6, he even split Geno and Kessel up too. Given that the Preds top 4 are so good as getting the puck out and establishing possession in the offensive zone, by dropping Kessel and even Guentzel down a few lines to give them some finishing ability against lesser opponents.

The problem is that the Preds top 4 plays over 50 minutes combined....so the lesser opponents are rarely on the ice. As good as Rowney has been, I think this series calls for more of speedy skill set. I expect to see 62 in there for game 2.
