Everyone is a liability on that defense. Maatta was supposed to be a second letang but instead he has played like a 6th dman. Daley has looked out of place most of the postseason. Hainsey is just awful and has always been. Schultz is solid offensively but we all know his defensive game isn't good. Cole is steady but should never play top 4 minutes. Dumo has been the best all around dman
- drummer829

Maatta wasn't expected to be a second letang. I don't think he ever really flashed Norris trophy levels defenseman. But he was expected to be a solid number 2 dman. A guy with great hockey IQ.

I expected hainsey to be the second coming out lovejoy but I don't believe he's achieved that. And by lovejoy I mean a physically limited high IQ guy who can eat up pk time. A really dependable but not splashing 5d

By the way, I saw another view of the offsides that killed the Preds goal. Much more clearer and yes, it was offsides. I'm kind of amazed they can't get the best video on the broadcast. The fans saw some grainy garbage.

However you wanna look at it that was almost a disaster. The Preds don't give up and weak plays up the boards only play to their strength. They have 4 incredibly talented D men. Pushing the puck up the boards is creating a chance for them. They have poise and can make plays.

Pens have to adapt in those pressure situations. A high clear can't be knocked down on the defensive blue line and allows our fast forwards a chance to catch up with their D and force turnovers.

I expect the Pens to be better next game. They absolutely cannot let off the gas. Safe is death.

Well despite not shooting for 37 minutes, we somehow only gave up 26 shots so at least we weren't getting shelled. I'll trust in Sullivan to make some adjustments.

Nice to see Jake and Sheary come through with some goals, hopefully a sign of things to come.

Saw on twitter that Rinne's .636 save percentage was the worst in a Cup final since 1967.

Takeaways:

-NO MORE STRETCH Passes! Remove them from the playbook except in rare, rare, very rare instances!

-Shultz can't handle the puck! He must have a hand, wrist, or arm injury besides the shoulder. I'd rather see Streit in there OR bench Hainsey and only use Shults sparingly.

-Keep the pressure on!!! You must forecheck and have the d-men pinch!

-MOST Importantly:
SHOOT the F---ing PUCK!

Your middle one is a silly take.

And Dumoulin has really struggled. Honestly, I think our best consistent all around D man has been Cole with Maatta having the best games at time. Haven't been impressed with Dumo this offseason but since he's lugging around that sack Hainsey around in willing to give him the benefit of the doubt to an extent. Still, this season has made me feel like he should get no more than 3 mil per this offseason. He's gone from a lock for a long term deal to a bridge candidate.

Where does Nashville even go from here. You play a bear perfect game but still lose. Must be demoralizing as Frank. Congrats on the win guys. Hopefully game 2 has a little more action hahs

Well they know they were better, and Rinne cant do worse. Would call them the mental winners

I seriously laughed through most of this thread. Complaining about the refs? Seriously.

Wasn't able to watch the game last night. But when I got back and looked up the stats and score for the game, I assumed it was a typo. How does a professional hockey team go 37 minutes without a shot on goal. In a stanley cup final game. At home.... and then win. Lmao. Penguins probably just used up all the good fortune you're allowed throughout the course of any playoff series.

I think you could possibly compare Ali rumble in the jungle to what happened today. Take all the hits, get him tired & slam him home at the end. Take a hiding but take the win. Strategy. Not sure Sully quite planned it the way it played but in the end it worked.

Pens can't be play with a lead. They prefer heart attack hockey?

so, if it was so definitive, why'd it take 9 hours to review? the league wanted to take every bit of momentum Nashville had away from them would be my guess

I really hope that's the case Jimbo. All series I hope they give us the benefit of every single decision to get us over the line.

That was the hollowest of wins I've ever experienced. I'd seriously like them to give the win back and play over again but if things go like this for the rest of the series it would probably be their only win anyway so...I guess the only thing the Pens actually have going for them is Rinne is their goalie and they seem to own him no matter what.

Now I know how it must have felt to be a Texans fan in 2002 when the Steelers held them to 47 yards of offense and the Texans still won 24-6.

You know the saying "showering off a bad loss"? I wonder how they showered this win off? They must feel cheaper than a prostitute working for crack money after that game. A win is a win? Are fans supposed to feel PO'd after a win? Whatever helps people sleep better I guess.

oh yeah? what happened? Nashville came out of the gates strong, score a great LEGIT goal that takes 9 hours to take away, kills their momentum and then Pittsburgh scores 3 straight goals. You're just an entitled phucktard

I wouldn't feel too bad about how they win, as long as they win. I'm thinking all they are thinking about now is game 2. Let's hope the result is the same & it's a 2-0 lead going to music city - don't care how they do it as long as they do.

Don't tell me we have to start apologising for winning?? You wouldn't think Rinne will have another like that in his bag, but you know what......Murray just has to save 1 more than him each game & we will be ok! Let's go Muzza!!!
