Which is why I don't understand individual corsi / fenwick stats: these are as dependent on the team around you as is the plus / minus stat.
ESPECIALLY for a defenseman. - StLBravesFan
Mostly they're just indicators of something else happening. Their best usage is when they don't align with what you're seeing with your eyes. If that's the case, it gives you something to look at to figure out why the numbers don't much to what you think you've been seeing, rather than just assuming one or the other is wrong.

Hammer plays the right side because he is best there...where is Faulk comfortable except on the ice when the other team score?
the right side?
so Seabrook is the the #3 right side defenser for the hawks, so this trade scenario just drifted to being a bad fit in another way besides losing the best player, a true scorer for a 3rd line centre and Faulk.
If he is that great Carolina should rush to resign him for more than Seabrook makes! - wiz1901
I think hammer plays on that side because we do not have another top 4 RD. Somebody has to. I thnk he would be just as effective if he was on his Left.
Also its says on eklands page that cal petterson ND goalie from Iowa who was rumored to want to play for CHI 6-3 goalie out of ND with a .924 save % over his 3 years 6-3, Sabres have 3 days to sign him or he becomes a FA. would be a great get for a team with really only 1 good goalie prospect who look years away.

These are both correct. He switched when Oduya came in and his advanced stats are almost identical on either side. |

Anyone else notice Malkin throwing shots when the linesmen were in between him and Subban, but when they let them go Malkin immediately bear hugged Subban and wasn't interested in trading blows? Malkin is a great player, but that was a chickenpoop thing to do. |

I meant the first time Oduya came in and they were partners. he went form right to left. he plays on the right with keith, forsling, and Campbell. Left with Seabs. |

He still played the right side primarily as a Hawk. And his weak ass backhand clear is tiresome. Hawks should move him while he still has value. He has been terrible the last 2 seasons. |

Disagree. Move him back left and his clearing and possession would improve immensely. Opposite side D-men just aren't a great idea in the NHL.
He also played 4 seasons of Left side before Oduya showed up, so it's closer to even that you think. |

He's real good. Underlying numbers suggest he's actually better than Slavin and Faulk, though it sure doesn't look that way when you watch.
Barring a big trade to bring in forward help, I expect that to start the season we'll see:
Slavin-Faulk
Hanifin-Pesce
Franson-Fleury
And even if Franson cost $4 million, that comes in under $12 mill next season. |

I am sorry - IF Faulk was really the guy why would his name be out there for most of the season. His not very good down low, and I simply don't see him as an heir apaprnt to any of the big three when the time comes they are parted with...those three aging defenders are all far BETTER players than he is, period.
And he is a right hander who can play the off side if I am not mistaken...
Granted Faulk scored a lot of goals with his point shot, but where they trailer on the rush goals? He's smaller than all the big three save for Keith, and he isn't that great in his end. He would hav emade the difference against the Predators? He and the slow- footed Rask?
Landing and Barrie would have made a bigger dent against Nashville...
I have heard all the talk about how Seabrook Keith and Hammer are slow and done, but that's horsefeathers...hwere they banged up? I give you that. - wiz1901
Agreed. Defensive depth may be a little bit of an issue, esp. if they lose TVR. But if I'm Bowman I am trying top figure out a couple of fixes/swap outs in the forwards for next year that don't involve asking rookies, and pro rookies at that, toi carry the load.

Seabrook is done! David Rundblad is vastly underrated! (Etc)
Especially because some guy who never actually played any hockey extrapolated that from a website!

Not really. Hjalmarsson isn't the player he was 2 seasons ago. He had a CF% of 43 this season. He hasn't been able to shutdown anyone beside Keith.
Plus you are clearing 5M in cap space while getting two extremely useful players.
Faulk/Keith
Seabrook/Pesce
That is a nice start to a D. |

I dunno. I think he'd be fine as a bottom pairing vet. There aren't a lot of options out there as far as UFA D go. |

At 4M? Canes would be better served playing one of their D prospects.
Franson isn't going to get the PP time he would need to be productive, imo. |

I disagree. His shot suppression is still tops in the league, he's just not, nor has he ever been, a shot generator. Move him left and I bet his possession metrics take a bump. he's also pretty cheap. |
