I had a little fun with capfriendly's armchair GM tool (which is really cool). normally I'm a fan of making as few moves as possible, but in the same of fun this is how the Hawks can remain cap compliant with a $73 million cap.

He's huge, but he's also not that good.
Winnipeg is losing either Lowry or Perrault to the expansion draft unless they trade one of them.
Gonna guess they're gonna dump Lowry for a pick. |

I don't think that 4 gets moved. At his $4mil cap hit not enough bang for the buck, i.e. cap relief. Anisimov gets you slightly more relief and can probably be replaced in the lineup much easier than Hjalmarsson. Trading #15 may cost you a Hinostroza or the like, but it makes more sense than dumping #4. - TheTrob
Your not dumping Hammer ,he could bring the best return . I don't like the idea of moving good players like AA Seabs or anyone else ,and having to lose prospects and or picks as well .
Make a hockey trade 2 for 1 get the cap space and a pick or prospect |

Just saw something where Vegas takes TVR through expansion and also Kruger through trade.
that also frees up a spot for Kempny. |

For cap clearing, how about 15 and 72 to devils for 1st overall and Smith-Pelly? |

Thats just it Duffman, at a cap hit of $4.1mil, please explain what 2 players you could get that would fill a hole/holes in the lineup AND still leave you with cap space? If you are trading him for picks/prospects then you are signalling that you are into re-build mode. He may bring you the best return in terms of higher picks or prospects, but picks and prospects do not help you win with a roster that needs to win NOW. Trading him means you are not competing for the Cup for the next 3+ years minimum, and at that point what is left of Kane/Toews/Keith/etc.
#4 is your best defender and probably your most durable. His cap hit is easily $2mil less than most comparable defenders. He is a top pairing defenseman on probably 2/3 of the teams in the league. His value far exceeds his cap hit. |

And on the dark side of the business, when he becomes a UFA he may be too battle worn to cash in. |

#Hawks would allow VGK to take D Trevor van Riemsdyk in draft, on consideration that @GoldenKnights also take Marcus Kruger in trade. #TSN |

Nothing, Means that they Keep Jurco and Pokka would be the only other guys under consideration. IMO. My guess is they said that they are considering having Seabs Wave his rights NMC. But if they trade for kruger after July 1st (hawks pay the 2 mil in signing bonus) they will not protect TVR. Maybe we get a late round pick or something. That is my guess. Vegas probably would not mind kruger but for sure would like to owe a guy 4 mil over 2 years with a AAV of 3. the only wrinkle I see is Kruger might have a NTC after July 1st so to do that he would have to waive or they would have to trade before July 1st.

Odd because I thought that if Vegas took TVR, the Hawks basically had to live with it. It was not conditional. |

As I said it would be more beneficial to trade both Panarin and Hammer in a package ,for one quality player ie Kane and 1st pick or Galchenyuk and Beaulieu or maybe Hall and a swap of 1st picks (unrealistic) but something of that type trade .Cap space would be made sign a Vet sand let the young D develop .I for one am not impressed with Panarin since his contract ,and Hammer will be looking for a raise soon .. Also look at what the pens have done with that D ,and a bunch of kids playing with some core players .I believe coaching right now maybe are biggest problem |

Right you are essentially a worst off team then last year.
that doesn't make any sense. - SteveRain
swapping panarin for patches? really? 60 points for 60 points? and Patches playing with Toews or Kane bags 40, easy, and you have him signed for 3 years instead of 2 at 4.5 instead of 6.
I don't understand how that doesn't make them better?
Same production + cap space + hard player to play with Toews who scores a crap ton of goals and Kane will get his points with anyone. Theyre either exactly the same or better because they have 1.5 million to pay someone else. |

If Vegas does not agree, Hawks will trade TvR before the draft to a team that can protect him. Giving Vegas an ultimatum. |

For some reason I thought I read that Vegas can't trade their 2017 draft picks, but I can't seem to find any proof of that, and I don't know why they couldn't.
So for the Vegas trade possibility - the Hawks are required to get some type of compensation back, correct? You can't trade some nothing back can you? You would have to get at least a 7th round pick in 2020 or something, right? |

Actually what they will do is trade him to a team that is going to expose a really good young player IE TVR would not be the best player exposed. Since the hawks have nothing left exposed other then Kruger, TVR, Pokka that is pretty bad pickings after TVR there are other teams that would load up guys since you can only lose 1.

Kane is your best offensive asset.
Look at his numbers pre and post Panarin arrival. This myth about "kane playing with anyone" is asinine. He can, but he wont' produce at the elite level that he has been the last 2 years.
Pac and Panarin are both signed for 2 years and Panarin is also 3 years younger....
What is Pac going to want in 2 years after years of netting 30+? What caliber UFA are you getting for 1.5? |
