Remember all the comments like the above I took a few years ago, when I was telling you guys that the only thing which made sense was the Luongo and Kesler had asked for trades - and roughly 100% of the people here (and on Reddit) attacked me constantly for literally years, claiming that Luongo and Kesler were above reproach and would NEVER in a million years do that to us? Well, how'd that work out for you guys?

I can remember taking all sorts of flames in 2006 and 2007 too, when I told Canucks fans that Burrows was one day going to be a top-line offensive star in the NHL. Oh yeah, and when I told you guys that Nonis was utterly incompetent and needed to go - it was everyone against me again. Well, until he got fired a month or two later, anyways.

Apparently, using our top picks to select players with terrible characters who can't do much of anything on the ice (Virtanen, McCann) isn't the way to go! Who could have guessed?!?

And, this town did so well with characterless players like Bryant Reeves, Mark Messier and Cody Hodgson too...

But, seriously, do they really know what players can do on the ice? These are the guys who thought Virtanen was better than Ehlers or Nylander, McCann was better than Pastrnak, Juolevi was better than Tkachuk, etc...

At pre-draft time i was all for Ehlers & unsure if Nylander could take the rough going.
JV i understood why he was picked & still think he will pan out ok.

McCann i liked after watching the CHL. Pastrnak i had a small sample size to judge him tbh.

On Juolevi over Tkachuk that was a tough call but again it was need & i get it.

In the end its still too early to see how it will all work out with us still needing top C's & the PP QB. This draft will address one of those needs & Gaudette looks very promising. With Boeser showing legit scoring skills its still all about patience and in 2-3yrs time JB's rebuild will be heavily scrutinized. Its very easy & convenient to play the woulda coulda shoulda game but I think we r looking ok as long we develop & find character in our picks & prospects. The 2018 draft will most likely garner us a top pick adding to this years picks & next years picks to restock the cupboard like we have never seen before. Adding Goldy & Dahlen is promising for sure & who knows what other roster vets r moved in the coming future.

With Demko a year to 2 away thats the time where we should be trending up.
The new core should be well in place by then with BO EG BB etc being prominent.

Also of note from 30 Thoughts: people don't realize how detached RFA compensation has become from the league salary structure.

Idk if its pre-drafts or at the table tbh its just a feeling.
I like trader Jim & his style mostly & if i'm wrong then the TDL will be real a curious time & interesting at that. I'm presuming we will see a similar roster revolving door up until the TDL due to injuries & auditions. Training camp will be tops on my list as to what shape the roster will take & identity TG will put together. With Tryamkin gone to the KHL it could only be for 2-3yrs til he can overcome his issues. Culture shock & the transition for Russians is much different than it is for other Euros. So he could be back at the right time for us when we r on the upswing. I'm projecting 1 vet D to be moved with Edler being my guess. I'd hope it were sooner than later but more likely at the TDL. Any type of renaissance season from him would be a huge bonus for any trade scenario & get us max value plus possibly to teams like TBL or the Sabres say.
