Yzerman didn't trade Drouin, and one could argue his trade value hasn't dropped at all. And he's still contributing to the team.

Shall we all prep our JB effigies?

- Crazybagoham

Benning can still do things to help this team get better, just don't let him talk to the media. Linden should be fired. Keep Benning as an asst GM and in charge of scouting, hire a new Pres. and GM, someone who has done it before.

Didn't Kesler get all his points on the pp with the twins?
- A_SteamingLombardi

he did chunk of them! it was Edler/Ehrhoff/Sedins/Kesler I think.....ah those were the days. the 2011 season that is, Im pretty sure he didn't play on the top unit for longer than a year or two though

Kesler also won a Selke the year he scored 42 goals, so he's always been a SOLID 2nd line centre/ 5 on 5 performer.

two very different scenario's though. Kesler was an established top 2 center, Drouin was an up and coming rookie (who in all fairness, was not getting what he deserved from Cooper at the time). Drouin's argument was that he wanted to be traded because he wasn't seeing the ice time he thought he deserved, Kesler wanted out for the sake of wanting out of the franchise. Hard to compare the two.

But Yzerman flat out said "the offers aren't good enough, so I'm not trading him".... That's all JB had to say, then release Anaheims terrible offer of Bonino/sbisa/McCann and Kesler's value would have rose. JB is too dumb to play the game.

Fair enough, I will give you that. I think you can potentially face a very toxic locker room though. Its easy enough for Lightning players to understand Drouin's issue with Cooper as he wants to contribute more to the team, rather than Canucks roster being in the same room as Kesler after knowing he just wants out.

I think that was the justification from Trev, to get Kesler out ASAP. I just hate seeing him play so well in the playoffs. I hope TL/JB at least offered him the 1C spot, it would have allowed us to play the Sedins less, but I'm sure JB thought they were still 80 point players and he didn't need Kesler This was also the organization that though hiring Torts was a good idea.

Let's hope they learned their lesson, it will take a long time to replace Kesler.

There is no leverage when the player has demanded a trade and given you a list of 2 teams, Benning was handcuffed but he's still an idiot.
- A_SteamingLombardi

He really wasn't though, he didn't HAVE to trade Kesler.

It boggles the mind how everyone is such a expert when hindsight is used. JB should have done this or that or the other thing.

Kesler is a good player, and an excellent checking center, there is no denying that, but would I want to have paid him 6.875 million over the next 5 years at age 32? No thanks.

Yeah, in hindsight some of his moves have been better than thought. However, I wasn't a fan of many of them at the time.

I think the return was fine for Kesler for example, it's what he's done with it that sucks.

yeah, coming off the luongo fiasco, a kesler holdout would have been ideal for this organization and the brand new management regime.

Since Tanev isn't going to be traded.

Arizona looking for a guy to play with OEL. Lots of young players and an extra first round pick.

Just read a rumour that Anaheim has been interested in 20 year old Sam Bennett. Cgy is also looking for a right shot D to play on their second pairing.

20 year old Sam Bennett could provide Canucks with another center and a bit of grit up front. I would think it would have to be 20 year old SB plus a little bit like a 3rd rounder or 2nd next season.
