The problem is we don't have an identity, at all.

We aren't fast
We aren't physical
We aren't overly skilled
We aren't a great defensive team

Our former GM just didn't know how to build a team.

Don't chase trends, build an identity

- sbroads24

Your good at the "We Aren't Part of Things"

Your opinion regarding the former GM is conflicting the issue.
Stick with what we "Aren't" and Go from there with suggestions for improvement.

Otherwise, you're just pissing in the wind.......

if tim murray did not make the trades to bring in lehner, ror, kane, bogo and fasching

we would be in a much better situation

we would have mcnabb and 2 seconds instead of fasching and deslauriers
lemieux, armia, myers, probably a second rd pick for staff and a first rd pick instead of kane and bogo
a first rd pick instead of lehner
zads, gringo, compher, pick 31 instead of ror, and a 3rd rd pick (mcginn trade)

the prospect pool would be much deeper
our d would have been much better

reinhart would probably be more along in his development

- homiedclown

I'm still ok with the O'Reilly trade
Kane trade too... but I could change my mind on that if we decide to move him & don't get a great return

Of all the guys we lost in those 2 trades though,
Compher is the only piece I really miss
And Zadorov would be nice to have too, but I'm more than happy with ROR

The McNabb trade I'll never understand

Tough to say we'd be in a better spot or not
All those extra assets would be nice to still have I guess,
but it's tough to know if we'd be able to trade for an O'Reilly &/or Kane now
Also, no way Okposo signs here if those trades weren't made

This has to be a joke, right?

He left with 3 2015 1st rounders, 3 2014 2nd rounders and a 30th place 2014 team.

He also left after drafting Ristolainen, Zadorov, Compher, Cal Petersen, Nick Baptiste, and Justin Bailey all in one draft.

He also left a ton of cap space and fewer bad contracts than we have now.

Darcy Regeir looks like GM of the year compared to Murray

- sbroads24

Agree
Darcy left us with TONS of pieces
He did a great job selling guys off to get us assets

Dude... don't buy that junk
Go get a few cheap tshirts & take them to a place that'll put lettering on for u

U can even distress the shirts yourself if u really want the vintage look
Put a couple small holes in them & throw them in the wash a few times

U could get 4 or 5 shirts for the cost of that one

I'm not going to buy it

I just think the concept of printing new stuff on old beat up shirts is really cool

mrazek had a higher HDSV% than Lehner on a worse wings team. If he's really available id take a run at him for the back up position. Only one year left on his deal at worst it just challenges lehner to be better and it gives you two options.

If the Sabres take Calle Makar at 8, is everyone gonna flip out because he's 5'10" 175lbs?

i want to believe that we've seen enough of bogosian, d-lo etc. to realize that this shouldnt be a huge deal, especially if he's BPA

How do you have the D-men ranked? Seems like Liljgren has really fallen because of his mononucleosis. Is Heiskanen generally seen as ahead of Makar or the other way around?

I think the minute anyone drafted after #8 shows the slightest hint of being better than who we drafted, the freak out will occur. "Botterill took the wrong guy."

And if there is any dispute there will be Corsi and hero charts.

At this point its really Heiskanen and then a cluster of d-men that you could really rank in any order.

Makar, Liljegren are generally seen as the next best but you could convince me that any one of valimaki, Brannstrom, Foote or Hague are just as good.

Thanks. I've been trying and failing at telling myself it doesn't matter that we fell two spots in the lottery. Most likely we still get a very good player, it just feels like there will be one less quality D-man to choose from.

1. Heiskanen (long gone before we pick)
2. Liljegren
3. Makar
4. Valimaki (he may be ranked lowest on my board, but has the most upside)

the others are the safe play
