See, that's the problem, you think this is his core. Sure it's most of it, but it's still probably 3 players shy of where he wanted to be. - Wetbandit1
Im not sure. Even if this is true, thats on him. He chose to speed it up, so him falling short is a result of paying too much for too little.
Personally, I think he paid these prices fully believing it would be enough. That the core as is could make the playoffs. |

I don't get how this is even a debate anymore.
He tried to speed it up the moment he drafted Eichel, and traded for ROR and Lehner, and had two bottom 10 finishes with his core after.
He sucked. End of story - sbroads24
his suckiness was uniquely fascinating. I wonder if he made these moves just one year later than he did for guys he wasnt attached to in ottawa, would he still have his job. |

No, this is his team
He's had 4 deadlines, 3 drafts, 3 offseasons.
This is where we are after 3 1/2 years
This is where Rochester is after 3 1/2 years
We are a rebuilding team, with an awful farm team.
How moronic is that? |

Considering he always said he wanted to add I would say that's false. |

I'm so tempted to spend the money and buy this beat up vintage t shirt (don't question it I'm a hipster)
https://www.shopbackbite....shirt?variant=33626485380 - chilliard77
I question those sizes. Who, other than an 8 year old boy has a 14"-17" chest?
Also, just give me $20, I'll order the shirt online and then give the shirt to my mom so her dog can chew on it and I'll still come out $10 ahead. |

I didn't even look at the size chart lol
I know how stupid it is logically but there's just something so cool about it to me |

And im sorry but in an era of puck moving defencemen having your 3 major adds be Gorges, Kulikov and Bogosian is inexcusable. - Sabresfan-365

if tim murray did not make the trades to bring in lehner, ror, kane, bogo and fasching
we would be in a much better situation
we would have mcnabb and 2 seconds instead of fasching and deslauriers
lemieux, armia, myers, probably a second rd pick for staff and a first rd pick instead of kane and bogo
a first rd pick instead of lehner
zads, gringo, compher, pick 31 instead of ror, and a 3rd rd pick (mcginn trade)
the prospect pool would be much deeper
our d would have been much better
reinhart would probably be more along in his development

Being a hindsight GM is super easy, People make it sound like Murray inherited a Juggernaut of talent in Rochester, Regier left the cupboards pretty bare. What I think was, Murray figured if he used some of the extra picks and UFA players to acquire veteran players who are either entering or already in their prime, i.e. O'Reilly, Kane Bogo, Lehner that if he got the ball rolling in Buffalo towards a playoff spot, then he would turn his attention to Rochester to start building up the organizational depth. IMO 2 things worked against the plan:
1. Bylsma failed miserably in using the players in a way necessary to succeed, I don't think he put the younger players in a position to have to learn how to play the game the right way and to get better because of it. Bringing up players from Rochester, who were playing well down there and throwing them out on the ice for 5-6 minutes a game is not developing their game. Which leads us to.
2. Toronto jumped ahead of us in their (tank) rebuild, Babcock and Co. took the chance and the risks of letting his young players play big minutes and they succeeded. The blueprint TO used is not going to work every time and more often than not fails, luckily for them it worked, that's not to say they can't take a step back this year, they don't call them Sophmore slumps for nothing.
That being said, It is time to move on to the next love of our lives GMJB, and let go of the pain caused by our ex GMTM, rehashing the relationship on a constant basis isn't healthy for anyone. |

This has to be a joke, right?
He left with 3 2015 1st rounders, 3 2014 2nd rounders and a 30th place 2014 team.
He also left after drafting Ristolainen, Zadorov, Compher, Cal Petersen, Nick Baptiste, and Justin Bailey all in one draft.
He also left a ton of cap space and fewer bad contracts than we have now.
Darcy Regeir looks like GM of the year compared to Murray |
