Watching and understanding what's happening are two totally different things.

Sullivan put it best last night when he repeatedly explained the "will to win" that this team has.
At the end of the day, I have to give the edge to the Preds in this coming series. Even with them missing RJ, their defense and goaltending is going to cause more headaches than any team thus far.
Much to Tanner's chagrin, the Preds actually DO have four #1 dmen. Rinne has returned to his dominant form.
The Preds remind me a lot of the Pens from last year. Started off looking like they may not even make the playoffs, making that late push and then finding that groove that led dominant play.
Even if the Pens don't win, we as fans have to be more than happy with what they've done. Teams that have been as injured as the Pens all year and playoffs don't make it this deep; it just RARELY happens.
This "will to win" has helped them overcome so much adversity. Getting to the show is impressive. |

I guess the two years in a row he was a Vezina finalst, but hey, what does that matter. |

This coming from someone who might know less than Tanner. |

you said...
Looks alot more likely to me that the Pens identified at the beginning of the playoffs that they would have to go through the Caps and without Letang their transition game would suffer too much vs the Caps neutral zone scheme. So the Pens designed a defensive scheme to keep the Caps out of the places goals are scored from and let them have the shots from the outside. Looks like the used the CBJ series to practice this scheme.
What areas were you talking about? Or... are you now backpedaling on your comment? - j.boyd919
What are you talking about. The Pens did exactly as I described and it worked like a charm. The Capitals sent hail mary after hail mary from the perimeter into Pens shin pads and go nothing out of it. The Pens limited the chances the Caps had from the real places to score.
Your retort was that shot attempts are recorded from the places goals are scored from. I asked for clarification as to what the shot attempt recorders consider a place to score from.

2010-11 was the only year he should have been a Vezina finalist. The other years he was nominated, there were clearly better goaltenders with better numbers. Vezina usually comes down to wins. I prefer to look at sv% when referring to a goaltender as "dominant" And he has been pretty average for the majority of his career. |

Sadly, "Scoring Chances" as well as "High Danger Scoring Chances" are actually a stat that the analytics community have defined. They've also come up with a way to calculate and quantigy "luck", so....
Oddly enough, not all goals come about from "Scoring Chances." So you don't need a chance to score in order to score. My 17-year-old self is very happy to know this. |

I'm not arguing his entire career. I'm arguing a few years where he was a dominant goalie and he was.
You're also no authority to say the only year he really should have been nominated, so nice try. |

Yep.
It's the old War-on-Ice definition. Based on location, attempt type and if it's a rush or rebound attempt. A high danger chance is any unblocked attempt (miss/shot/goal) or blocked rush/rebound attempt from the blue, or any unblocked rush/rebound attempt in the red. A scoring chance is any attempt (block/miss/shot/goal) from the blue, any unblocked attempt or blocked rush/rebound attempt in the red, or any unblocked rush/rebound attempt in the yellow.
So, again.. as I said before.. you are wrong. The penguins gave up 192 scoring chances in 7 games from areas such as the high slot, center point, inside the dots, and around the crease.
Soooo.. they actually didn't do exactly as you described. |

Dude had 1 outlier, dominant year lol, so he was never in "dominant form" he had one good season, as in, it's not normal. |

Well then, wouldn't he have been in "dominant form" for the majority of his "dominant year?" If so, that's not "never." |
