Need some opinions here who do the pens, opinions, protect and make available in the upcoming expansion draft. Thanks - bigdaddywaite
I'd protect Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Rust, (Sheary and Guentzel exempt)
Letang, Schultz, Dumoulin, Maatta, Murray
Hornqvist, Hagelin, Wilson, Sundqvist, Cole, Pouliot among those available. Maybe Fleury if they got him to waive and haven't traded him beforehand. |

Yeah, that's easily the most logical. It will suck to lose Hornqvist if that's what happens, but everyone else is no big deal, IMO. I like Hags but his contract and lack of production are not worth exposing a young defenseman or a young stud like Rust. I highly doubt he gets taken, anyway. Not even sure Horny gets taken. If I'm Vegas, I would take Sund or Pouliot before anyone else, hoping they will blossom in a new environment. Maybe Fleury to at least have a decent goalie to start off with. |

I was at the game and it was the weirdest playoff vibe I've ever experienced. 18,000 plus sitting nervously on their hands and going: holy crap, what's going to happen? Will a random goal decide it?
Unlike last year's game 7 when the place was above 100 decibels from the opening face-off.
This one sounded like a game in February, until Kunitz scored. - PensFan1962

Anyone have a link to episode 2 of Quest for the Stanley Cup, really enjoyed last years season and episode 1 this year was pretty good too. |

rather see them go with the 7 and 3 route. I think you can leave Schultz unprotected to be honest. Hear me out, I think he is solid...but I think he is more of a product of being in Pitts, than anything else. I think being able to keep two of Horn, Hags, Wilson or Sunds will have more value than keeping an extra Dman. They could work out a deal with Vegas, where they take Schultz, Pens offer him a contract worthy of a 2nd round comp, Vegas gets a 2nd rounder out of it. Pens don't really lose anyone. Am I over thinking this? lol |

I loved when Johannsen told Kesler that "you're a (frank)ing loser and nobody likes you". |

It's on SN in Canada right now. Watch the Pens YT channel. Might come on shortly after it airs here? |

If we did lose Schultz we'd be way worse off than losing Wilson or Sund. I'm in the camp of give Schultz his money. He's earned it and then some. He's as close to Letang insurance as we're gonna get unless Shats signs here. |

I think Letang's status is going to be perennially "iffy". For that reason we need to protect and sign Schultz. I don't think there's any way around it. I'd be more willing to lose Dumo or Maatta than Schultz.
I hate losing Hornie to be honest. It's such an important role.
Sundqvist is a guy that didn't impress me at all in his brief stint with the big club this year. Short sample size, but no aspect of his game stood out. |

I think who we leave unprotected is pretty inconsiquential. We're not gonna leave any young, budding stars unprotected (only Guentzel and maybe Sheary and Sprong qualify), so we can swing a trade for pretty much anyone. We won't lose anyone we don't want to keep. I'll be happy with the expansion draft if we come out of it retaining Maatta, Schultz, and Rust. |

I dislike Bobby Ryan even more after watching that episode of Quest for the cup. I'm glad he was on to see the final goal. |

Sheary isn't exempt. He's played as a professional for four years. |

I think Horn and Hags are worth more to the team than just Schultz, that is my thinking in keeping the 7/3 over the 4/4. We have two weeks till the choices need to be made, but like I said...with Schultz being a RFA...its a route they could explore. Have Vegas select Schultz, Pens offer him a contract at like 3.8 mil and Vegas gets a 2nd rounder. I think both sides would be happy with that. |

I think Sheary is exempt, because he didn't have a pro contract. Much like Geuntzel. Sprong will be exempt also. Wilson, Rust, Schultz, Maatta, Sunds, Dumo are not exempt out of the young guys. |

Having Hags 4 million off the books is more valuable then Hags himself IMO. The Pens have a lot of fast cheap wingers that can fill his role. He was instrumental in our SC run last year but he hasn't been good this year. Especially with that price tag. |

I think Hags is worth it, his speed opens up a lot. He is solid on the PK, and always that chance of a shorty because of his speed. I know Sullivan loves him, I know you can only lose 1 player, I guess I would rather protect 10 over 8. |

The moment has been postponed for a few days. This board has been really dead considering we just won a huge game 7. Any hockey talk is better than none. |

Sheary's only had an NHL contract for two years. The contract he had before was an AHL one way. |

Just a different conversation. Matchups and stats are going to be beaten to death over the next week or two. |
