I've always called it like it is. he's been the best offensive dman in the league for years. 5 years maybe. he's been absolutely horrible defensively over that time though. this year he was average defensively (maybe a little below), which is significantly improved, but ironically not the best offensively. 2nd or third id say. all the credit to him, I've always said if he would stop completely ignoring defense to generate points as much he would be better for it, and he is.

the best overall dman in my opinion is hedman this year. usually I think doughty but he was not amongst the top 5 or 10 this year. normally my favourite dman. hedman and doughty truly do everything at an elite level.

Calling him a top d man doesn't even do him justice anymore, he's one of the top 5 players the nhl.

he was never remotely close to top 5 in the past. the senators were a (frank)ing sieve with him on the ice for many years.
