There are a lot of varying opinions of ceci in this fan base.
I'm of the opinion that he's a train wreck who's development has stalled.....but because of where he was drafted and the contract they gave him, management/ownership are too stuborn to give up on him because of the "what if".........similar to what we had to endure with cowen. - sensarmy_11
Management/ownership are under no obligation to give Ceci the 2nd most minutes of anyone on the team. That said, given that he's going into the 2nd year of his bridge contract, I wouldn't be surprised if his name came up in virtually every trade rumour the team is involved with between now and the draft.

They gave cowen a poop ton of no minutes too.......right up until he was hurt and traded |

As long as Ottawa has Karlsson, they will compete for the Cup.

What were people's thoughts on Wideman this playoffs?
I thought he was passed by Claessen, and perhaps will be by Harpur . |

I think he was very unimpressive......probably the worst of our 6 dmen on most nights.
He was EASILY surpassed by claessen ( but I also think claessen played better than most of our dmen) |

Claesson really impressed me, and I'd actually suggest that Harpur has already showed that he can handle bigger minutes. Wideman serves a useful depth role as a RH-shot with some decent 2nd unit PP ability, but that 3rd pairing role seems like the limit of his potential. I'm not sure I see him being in the fold past next year, but it may depend on the expansion draft outcome.

like last season?
prior to this season, he's only ever been on a team that's won a playoff series once in his career.
proclaiming them perennial contenders because he's on the team is a little counter to logic no? hell, they really only won one series against a full team this year, and lost to a team completely battered by injuries. who still soundly outplayed the sens, outshooting them on average 34 to 28 (which is a bigger average margin than the worst team in the league in the regular season). thank God for a heroic performance from your goalie right? if anything I would think that would make you realize just how far the sens are from being a real contender. like maybe 2 elite forwards and another top dman? plus replace your aging goalie?
there really are maybe only 4 or 5 true contenders a year. the sens were not one. |

I said this in the Pens thread when it was 2-2, this is the year for the Sens - bar no other. They had been given a prime opportunity rarely seen to get to the SCF by playing a team absolutely hammered by injury - granted their own team wasn't 100%. This was the year.
I had another poster tell me he thought while EK was playing & the Sens young guys coming through could play with this current group then their window was open. I disagree. As Matt said earlier, Tampa, Florida & the Habs will all rebound & in doing so make it harder for the Sens to get this far. As good as this season has been for them, I think it's an opportunity - their opportunity to win the Cup. Just my opinion. |

So do you consider the Pens a contender now?... I Remember yourself and I getting in a little tizzy on the Pens blog becuase you said the Pens were definitely not contenders this year. |

I think there is so much parity in the league now any team that makes the playoffs can be considered a contender.
Ottawa takes Pittsburgh to double overtime in game 7
Leafs take Washington to 6 games with 5 going to overtime
Oilers push Ducks to 7 games
With the team defense Ottawa played they could go deep next year, OR not make the playoffs at all. There is not much to choose between teams with the salary cap in place.
I think that is a good thing and gives fans hope, unlike the NBA and even baseball to a lesser extent.
In any case a great run by the Sens who showed a ton of grit right through the playoffs. Very impressive. |

I think you're confusing me with someone else. I don't think I ever would have said that. I said they weren't the favourite, without Letang. Letang in my opinion is the best two way dman in the east. losing him is a huge blow.
but you'd have to show me what post you're referring to. I'm pretty sure yours thinking of someone else. |

I don't think he's cowen level bad but I don't think he's one of the 4 best down in this organization moving forward (meaning I think there are 4-5 guys who are either better right now or will be very soon.) - sensarmy_11
I think he is your Jake Gardiner. The Leafs were patient with Gardiner and he was their best defenseman this season. He was excellent in the playoffs.
Too early to give up on Ceci. You have to hold on to him. |

I'm not saying give up on him........but the team seems to think he's an "untouchable" guy (if you believe the rumours of trades for him that ottawa has turned down) and he has never shown that he's good enough to be considered that.
I don't want to give up on him but if a trade comes up for him that makes this team better I wouldn't bat an eye if they moved him......hes easily replaceable IMO |

okay. sobi said it's Washington's to lose. and IF both Letang and Malkin are out, they're not contwnders. with Malkin back in, its doubtful. that implies still possible if only letang is out doesnt it?
so Washington lost it. Malkin was not out though, so I never ruled them out as contenders.
I basically said its tough to match up with the top teams like Chicago and Washington without Letang. with those two gone, doesn't me saying Pittsburgh is now the favourite, fit in quite nicely?
edit also forgot about hedman. best two way dman in the east. |

When will your hatred ever end
Karlsson is THE best defenseman in the league, bar none..... offensively, blocked shots, d-zone coverage, PK, PP.....
When are you finally going to admit it???? When he wins 5 Norris's???? |

I personally don't think he's the best overall defenseman, but the best offensive defenseman yes but he has come along way and my respect has too !for his playoff performance, He showed great strides in wearing the C,and I believe that next year possibly and beyond that he will be the best!imho, also didn't lidstom win most if not all his Norris trophies after 30?if so that bodes very well for this young man and team!..again great run!some kids in the pipeline!very exciting times for sens fans! best of luck in the offseason!...p.s . maybe /hopefully melnek opens his wallet! The fans and team franking definitely deserve it! |
