Don't forget the couple of Jabronis from Cow town that had a hand it this.

Seems like the Nucks fans have all logged off for now, which makes the thread interesting for a change.

I mean...what in the (frank) were they concerning themselves with before we showed up? A former 6th round pick signing with the KHL?

First draft in a couple years where they probably go forward heavy rather then dmen.

Dumb question asked by dumb people. Makes sense.
- Larsson_fan

There are only 2 players ever that are within 1000 points of him . They had to play 300 more games to get to 900 points less.

Henrik Sedin just hit 1000 points after 16 years and is just under 2000 points away from Gretz.

There were thousands of the worlds best playing back then and only two have come within a thousand points away from him or 16 Henrik Sedin years.

People need to wrap their heads around those numbers. They are mind boggling

After a decade of our team being a punchline it is kind of nice. Also nice that they finally have the necessary blueline depth that talented prospects can actually spend time in the A developing.

Outside of Puljujarvi they don't have a ton of great forward prospects though. I liked drafting Tyler Benson but he seems to get injured a lot.

He put up those numbers with a 10 dollar stick a loose fitting Joffa helmet , heavy pads and 200 dollar skates. Imagine if he had ultra lite skates with a composite stick and aerodynamic equipment along with the training facilities and technology.

It is a dumb question and even dumber to think Gretzky would be a lanky 140 lb kid playing with 1980 gear.

- VANTEL

He also put up those numbers against 4'6 goalies who would come out to the face off dot to look bigger in the net ... goals scored back then would be considered soft by today's standards ...the game then was all offence no defence

Just think if guys in the 80's could have levelled Gretzky like today's players do to the Crosby's of the world ...Gretzky today would have a Semenko to protect him

I was never arguing Gretzky wasn't great ...just that he was lucky to play in the most offensive era ever

Wiki his records sometime. I did one night and even as a long term Oilers fan I was blown away by some of them, especially the unofficial ones. For example, he scored 70 or more goals in 4 consecutive seasons, or even better: he was a PPG player 19 freakin seasons in a row. That doesn't even seem like it should be possible.

More than 2000 of the worlds best players played in the same era and no one is within 900 points of him.

Bobby Orr and Gordie Howe must have been crap then seeing they played agains short fat goalies like Worsely who didn't wear a mask.

sadly, it seems so. I remember at one point he destroyed Rattie's Bantam records and they were talking exceptional status for him.

It was also considered harmless fun to aim any part of your body at another guys head. Gretz may have had Semenko but he learned early on to keep his head on a swivel and watch his ass. Semenko or not, other teams were always looking to nail him.

Bigger goalie equipment, larger and faster and more skilled dmen, different rules, the advent of the butterfly...of course he wouldn't. However, all the same game advances that were unavailable to him in his time would now be his and he would still be thinking the game 5 steps ahead of everyone else.

There's no winner to be had in trying to compare players from different eras really. I doubt Crosby would enjoy the 80s where every goon that could half assed skate was looking to break your neck every game. We'll never really know.

- TheTaoOfSemenko

This is actually a useless debate or comparison, Gretzky was extremely talented, as is Crosby, the only comparison, they are/were both whiners on an extreme level.

Gretzky would have most definitely benefited from today training and nutrition regimes, but maybe he would have had 5 concussions also. Crosby doesn't have a Dave Semenko protecting him at every turn like Gretzky did.

No it hasn't . No one said you thought he is terrible. We are just telling you that with all the technology and equipment he would still be the best.

One of your Defense prospects got WHL d-man of the year.

One of ours was nominated but didn't win the QMJHL.

Those are good prospects in my books

Semenko was a winger. How much time do you suppose he spent playing on Waynes line?

Yes. Guys like Caleb Jones and Mantha are strong D prospects as well. I said our forward prospect depth is not as strong outside of Puljujarvi.
