Krutov liked what Western Culture had to offer so much that he lost interest and focus on hockey.

He changed the way the game was played. Before he came along the game was played in front of the net, he changed it to doing it from behind. He went to where the puck would be not where it was. His hockey sense will always be the greatest.

People started playing hockey at 8 back then he started at 4. He did exactly what it took to be ahead of the curve. Some people just have that built inside them to be the best. He would have found something to separate him from the rest.

Since nobody in NHL history set anything near WG's numbers, it is fair to say that if Gretzky played today and not when he did, those records would not exist. There would be other records, but nothing of his level.

If he was smart enough back then to realize what it took don't you think he would have been training 4 hours a day in the gym , using techniques and equipment used today to come in with tree trunk legs a computer like brain and modern equipment. The best always find a way to be the best.
