They are not trading Price

He either signs an extension this summer or he walks on July 1st 2018

- stinger67

Yup. No point of trading him. He is a rare reason why a player would like to sign or be traded to the Habs.

I guess your right. With 41 points in 77 games he really played more like a 3rd line center this past season. Plus at the world championships he ended as the the third line right wingerwith just one goal and no assists through ten games. I suppose I was being generous calling him a second line center...
- Jennifer B Cutler

Matt Duchene has been in centre scoring by points

29th as a rookie (3rd on team)
13th (1st on team)
75th (58 games played injured season) (6th on team)
14th (1st on team)
9th (1st on team)
26th (3rd on team)
19th (1st on team)
63rd (2nd on team)

There are two aberrations, one in an injury plagued season and this past year. He's pretty much been consistently the best player (and centre) on his team and falls into the 20th range of centres. Obviously he's not Crosby or even Tavares, but he's a first line centre.

As to the WC's, I suppose you would argue that Brock Nelson is better than Jack Eichel? Damien Fleury is an All-Star? Dennis Seidenberg is a better offensive defenseman than Oliver Ekman-Larsson? If we're going to use tournaments as litmus tests then how about Duchene being better than Steven Stamkos? I mean, he played better in a 6 game tournament!

i would trade him in a heartbeat if it brought back a legitimate #1 center of reasonable age.

Would be curious to see Pacioretty going at him with a clipper in hand when they'd first meet in the Habs dressing room
