Price is the problem!
- Scabeh

I don't know why trading Price is an idea that cannot be entertained.

Habs are in an extremely tough spot right now. Basically pushed all of their chips into the middle last year with the Subban for Weber trade, but still clearly aren't built to compete for a cup. Two options:

1. Do everything you can to re-sign Radulov, and potentially bring in a dude like Kovalchuk. Trade Sergachev, Scherbak, Juulsen, etc, for established talent. Make one more push

2. Tear it apart. Trade Carey et al for draft picks and young players

Honestly, the second option is probably smarter and more realistic. But either way, I don't envy Bergevin

Option 2 can offer the Habs a chance to keep their window open for a while.

Exactly. That's what they've got to avoid. If they're gonna take a stance, take a strong one

Habs could get a really nice package in exchange for Carey. The more I think about it, they've got to do that. Makes no sense to pay him $10M per to play on an aging team with no shot at a cup

Beyond Sergachev, the cupboards are pretty bare. Time to re-stock

Yeah, but it was a clear message that they were pushing for a cup immediately

Depends what NYR were asking for. If they are offering Stepan and a 2nd for Galchenyuk are you saying no? retained salary?
- mrn22

I'd rather keep Galchenyuk and see if they can make it work.

Pacioretty is turning into Mike Ribeiro part II. Consistent production, but no one seems to want him around. It was a huge mistake giving him the "C"

I think the problem with that is theyre fear of what Prices contract would be and finding someone to take him at that point.

No one is going to give up the farm for an upcoming UFA, especially not a goalie.

Yes and no. It's pretty (frank)ing obvious this time is no where near contention, so it should be blown up, but at the same time Molson and Bergevin are certainly going to run this team into the ground.

Man the Devs could use Galchenyuk or Sergachev (preferable). Do you think Kovy would get either? Or what would it take?
