Curious but what can the NHL change to eliminate the "hurt and fatigued" problem. It seems like every team is pretty beat up right now. I don't remember this problem as much in the past; atleast the years we made cup runs.

If a sport is really going to have great championship series/games then they want their best players playing the game at a very high level. The championship games get the most viewers. If teams are limping to the finish line maybe the old-timers love to see that kind of hockey, but the casaul fan wants to see the games best players making plays.

FWIW the NBA gets to feature a Durant/Curry versus Lebron game.

(obviously eliminating head shots like every other sport would be a good start)

Not condensing the schedule for the world cup would help too. But yeah, caring about guys taking cheap shots at each other would be nice if they want to see each team have a chance to play each other at their best. All 4 teams in the Conference Finals are really beat up this year.

Season is too long. Home and home each team. Eventually that would likely be a 62 game season. 1st round maybe 2nd should be best of 5. Both would help

Its really bad this year. Not an exciting product at all.

I think 3 factors are coming into play
1. NHL doesn't take player safety seriously. And won't take the plays out of the game that could probably reduce injuries 25% or so if they called their own rule book.

2. Season was too long this year. Bigger problem for Penguins being the only repeat team this year. But World Cups etc added more games to the season.

3. Blocked shots. This is definitely increasing and I think the Pens specifically block too many shots. Not sure what to do about this. I don't like the idea of eliminating blocked shots to some extent, but I also think the other sports have found ways to highlight skill. Blocked shots just aren't as entertaining as a skilled play.

Wingles not getting a suspension for that utter gutless move is a total miscarriage of justice. Just cause you're getting wooped doesn't mean you go head hunting. Have some class, if your out played why not take some notes and figure out how to play better next time. There is no place in hockey for that crap.

At the end of the day the guys are men with families and lives outside of hockey, they shouldn't have to pay with their health cause one guy is throwing a hissy fit and wants to hurt someone for it.

That being said the series isn't over and I can tell you there is nothing worse than a cornered animal. Do or die time for the Sens but whether or not they play like those cornered animals will be very obvious within the first five minutes.

I'm just hoping for a solid game. If we lose I want to lose because they got beat not cause they played like crap.

Good luck to both.

Keep it clean.

In an NHL that clearly does not care about it's players, this is the norm. Until someone dies this is gonna be the way the playoffs are officiated. At least the Pens/Sens don't have to worry about being assaulted by the Ducks.

You can start by calling all stick infractions properly. All slashes hooks and crosschecks should be a call immediately. You can eliminate head shots by severely penalizing the opposing player. 5 and a game with an evaluation on all head hits by a competent department of safety. All charges and dangerous hits need to be called at all times. This will go a long way in keeping players healthy.

I have never been a fan of blocking shots as a strategy. I think it's somewhat bushleague. Even as the pens did it a ton when maf was in net. I've always thought players should not be allowed to leave their feet to block shots. But it's a hard thing to police...and not sure I care that much if a player hurts themselves on plays like that.

I do not subscribe to schedule or whatever as a reason for injuries...there is a lot of bad luck involved...except in scenarios where by teams target specific players with dirty hits. If you get the crap out of the game...i believe these athletes can play more than they do now even. The worst injuries are coming from questionable "hockey plays".

Pretty much agree with this.

Though I do think schedule is having a big effect this year. More condensed schedule. It means you have less time to recover from games. Slashing is the only one of those I think is difficult to take out of the game. sticks fly around in puck battles, but they could still eliminate a lot.
